The local Honda dealership is running a deal right not on timing belt replacement. they're chargin $260 for it. Is this a good deal? (btw I'm not going to attempt this myself).

That seems fairly good to me esp sense it is an oem part

Yeah, from Delon. They're charging $220 for a civic timing belt replacement and 260 for preludes and accords.

As long as it includes the three drive belts and water pump it's not bad. Having done it myself twice I would pay that much to get it done next time! It cost me over $100 for the parts to do it myself. BTW, I also go ahead and change the thermostat while I'm at it.

Later!

Do you know if they're gonna do the water pump at the same time? I know they usually do it when the t-belt gets replaced cause they usually go out around the same time.

I think it's just the timing belt but I'm sure you could have them change the other belts while they're there.

not belts, the pump itself. Although its easy as hell to do the water pump.

Well, only when you are doing the timing belt and the cover is off. If you are trying to do it while the cover is on - it's not so easy.

If it was for all three belts I would do it. I personaly would do it my self. I love to save money and cut the shit out of my hands at the same time. :)

My method does not seem to be favored here, but here it is...

I slipped a guy at a local shop $5 to break the bolt loose with an impact wrench, hand tightened it, and drove the car home to do the rest of the job.

Unless you have access to a high torque impact gun this is my favored method. I tightened the thing back up with an electric impact wrench which I just happen to have. Following the advice of a Honda mechanic I used blue Loctite on it when I put it back together to prevent the threads from seizing for next time.
