What does the flywheel do?

It's kind of surprising how many people don't really know what the hell it does, the most I know it does is connect the crank directly to your tranny, and the flywheel teeth hook on the starter to fire the engine up.

It adds inertia to the crank to smooth out the idle and keep the engine from stalling.
