well- my temp gauge isn't working on my LXI and I have no idea if I am overheating or not- car had to sit for six months while I was deployed so my charging system isn't really working all that great either- got a new bat and alt and both test good but car still seems to be only running off the battery

ohhh, check for any loose wires.
make sure you don't have any amimals under the hood eating your wires.

Make sure the ground wire is attached to you alternator

well- wires seem to be intact- not sure what else to look for

I'm sorry if this has nothing or is not of any help to you, but as an advice, be sure to detach you ground and positive wires from the battery next time you're gonna let your car sit for at least 3 days without even starting the car. Good luck.

I don't know how three days of sitting would hurt it. I've left mine for like 14 days when I went to Mexico this year. Started up better than when I left too.

But I can see if it was gonna be awhile before you start it. Then you would want to disconnect the battery terminals.

Take off the plug to the alternator and make sure it is not rustred inside.

look at the thermostat housing, their is a little plastic plug that controls lxi temp gauges. On my old lxi it was cracked and the temp gauge didnt work!

when you say yer charging system isn't working all that great, can ya be a lil more specific. Is it charging at all or whats the deal. As far as the temp issue you should be able to disconnect the yello w and green wire off the sensor and short it to ground , with the key turned forward it should go to full hot. Don't leave it grounded long or you may risk damaging the gauge. A new sending unit is cheap, or at least the last one I bought a few weeks ago was
