I ran all 4 of these and here are the results
16"
205/45/16
205/40/16

the 45's were closer to the overall size of the car's original wheels and they roll softer over bumps, they also fill the gap in the fenderwell better, these sizes are harder to find than 40's in an average shop. The 40's also make the rim look bigger but leaves a larger fender gap and your frame closer to the ground

17"
215/45/17
215/40/17

The wheels fit without rubbing, however my rear fenders are cut (the lip had some rust so I cut them out of both sides) and the 45's rubbed the upper control arm very slightly. It could have been corrected by removing the castle nut cover or grinding it. the 215/40's fit perfect, no fender gap, no cutting the arm...

Pics coming... How do I measure the rim backspacing?

Yea, I have 205/40s and its right by the arm, my hand just barely fits in-between.

That's what I'm dealing with too. But he's running 215/40/17's, that's just crazy. I would love to be able to sneak that extra width on my tires.
