Well the state of our economy is actually getting better but have you heard the latest #'s on the cost of war up to this date. It's in-fucking-credible! That could have a major impact on this topic. Gas here is usually $1.35/gal during the summer and it is currently upwards of $1.75.

Lucky bastard. There are two reservations here in town and I think they're charging as much as anywhere else.

actually the black out last week caused the prices to go up. there are two major fuel factories that got shut down because if that.

That, and worldwide prices are tight. Also, the Iraq stuff isn't being pumped yet.

08-23-2003, 09:33 AM
gas prices here are way up as well

usually it hovers around $0.60-0.65 / Litre. Today it was $0.80/litre.

When the blackout hit, some stations went up to $1.00/Litre!!!

Pray to god that Iraq doesn't get sucked into OPEC once their oil gets pumping in big numbers, and we could see prices around a buck a gallon in the next few years.

225-3.00 here in PHoenix. We have been having a pipeline problem thus meaning gas has to be trucked in from Tucson. I just paid 2.45 yesterday morning for premium. the average before the problem happened was around 1.60 or so.

Haha. Wow. I can't remember the last time our gas was that low here in Phoenix. Like goldyaccord said. We had a major gasline blow up. So we are still, our 3rd week into it, having trucks ship in gas from Tucson and California. The problem should be fixed within the next week to 2 weeks. Right now. The average gallon of gas is going for $2.25. It's insane. When it hit hard. We had cars piled up a mile back from stations, and only a couple in the state were open. You want gasoline problems, move to this retarded state.

I still think that $1.55/gl is crazy, especially since I hav to fill on 93 octane for $15 a week to get 10 gallons. That is only on the 240, the accord is about $11 a week, so yeah, its a little expensive. I drive 45 miles to and from work five days a week and run many errands when at home also full time school for info.

jesus, u guys are getting raped at those prices. It was at a steady $1.39 at the git 'n go by my house up until the beginning of the summer. The newspaper has a daily gas index and today it was $1.58. It sucks, but i'm still paying under $20 at every fill up, which is about every 2 weeks now, but school starts on monday and then i'll probably be gassing up like every week and a half. So how many gallons can our accords take anyways? I keep seeing two different amounts. I just want to do the math and find out my mileage, which for some reason has gotten a lot better in the last 3 months.

Well I went to fill up today for the first time in about a week and a half only to discover the cost of regular 87 octane is now 86.9¢ a litre. That equates to about $2.37 USD per gallon! Apparently this part of Canada isn't the hardest hit by the latest increase in gas prices. In Montreal and Vancouver they're paying well over 90¢ per litre.

Regular fuel will be well into the 90-98 cent a litre range by the end of the summer - mark my words.
That being said, what is the typical fuel economy that can be expected from an EX-i in a good state of tune? I havent the slightest idea what is good and what is bad.

I know that my turbodiesel Mercedes costs just under $40 to fill (actually, $32, as I never let it get much below 1/4 tank) and that lasts an entire week. This works out to 10.3 litres per 100 kilometers, if I recall my last calculations, for my mostly highway drive to work and around town on the weekends. That, I believe is almost 40 mpg mixed hwy/city.
Diesels rule - even if they do stink.
The 1750 cc 74' Alfa GTV with 2 Del Lorto's gets just over half that on mid-grade or premium if I plan on driving it hard.
My Ducati 888 motorcycle is even worse. It guzzles premium, and will consume at least $10 a day, and gets under 5 l. per 100 km/18 mpg. (being ridden maniacally, though).
So far, the Accord is an unknown, as we have had it 1 week today, and we have used 3/4 of a tank, driving every day.

i can find it for about $2 here in college station. It bounces between $1.90 and $2.10 for regular.

you guys also have to understand that it's not just gas that's more expensive. The american dollar isn't worth as much as it used to be worth. Sure the price of oil has gone up, but not enough to justify these kinds of increases. EVERYTHING is more expensive. food, gas, clothes, medicine, etc. I used to pay $5 copay to visit the doctor and $10 for drugs. Now, i pay $25 for the visit and $40 for drugs. Milk is over $3 a gallon, here.

what you're buying isn't more valuable than it used to be. the currency you're buying with is just less valuable so you have to use more of it.

that, largely, has to do with HOW the country is being run -- not oil production in the middle east. Studies have shown that with the economy the way it is, minimum wage should be over $10 per hour. Unfortunately, it takes YEARS AND YEARS of increasing poverty for the minimum wage to get increased. It'll take decades before minimum wage hits $10 per hour.

Could you imagine if minimum wage was $10 or $12 an hour?

I have been filling up on Premium for a about a year to get used to paying more, so now I am back down to Regular, $2.57 a gallon yesterday!

Let's see, put an Oil Money Family in power, thats in the Saudis Pockets, and you think the price of gas will go down! Ha! Not a chance, it will only go down if we stop buying so much, simple ecomonics......

Iraq oil is for military use, high quality aviation fuels and tank juice. I think I remeber reading after Gulf War 1 that only 20% of Iraq oil is used domestically. Opec actually trys to keep the price below $2 a gallon because they know when it gets to high, everyone will start investing in alternatives like Hybrids and electric cars....

I just heard a radio program about this last week. The Latest figures for global oil production estimate that this year will be the peak year for production, not 2020 like they used to think. That means that supply will start shrinking as demand increases in the 3rd world, and the oil that is left to get is much more dificult to extract. So that means the price will go up and up. So even if we start driving hybrids the cost per mile will end up the same.....

Those poor California fools driving Hummers....:)

One thing I noticed is people are driving slower...:)

the feds are also drafting legislation to make hybrid car owners pay a separate tax for driving hybrid vehicles. rumor has it, the cars will be taxed on their annual milage which will be checked at inspection stands. a yearly inspection requirement will force hybrid car owners to get their cars checked once a year and pay a tax.

so much for consumer benefits to driving an efficient car. might as well drive a nicely tuned V6. it'll cost the same...

Ya, H2 hummers, and whats up with their rear suspensions? Why would someone pay so much for no clearance?

Taxing Hybrids? I guess it is because road tax is applied via Gas per gallon, so the better the car the less road tax you pay, and with these hybrids getting almost double the MPG that means half the tax.....if its fair it should all work out the same tax wise, but with only half the gallons.

Another thing the tow truck guy told me, if you run a hybrid out of gas you have to take it to the dealer to get it reprogramed!! and people are running them out of gas alot!!! They don't have much battery juice so when the gas is gone you don't have many miles left.

We just got a sweet Silverado V-8 Hybrid truck at work donated by GM. It is Awsome!!! All the power when you need it but still effecient.

meh, that's not bad, considering that car shouldn't be a daily driver...

people need to have a good econmy car for daily driving... i mean, it makes sense... 15,000 miles at 12 MPG or 15,000 miles at 30 MPG... do the math, people...

ok,ok i did the math... using those figures above and assuming a fixed fuel price of $2.50

the car that gets 12 MPG will cost $3125 for fuel per year
the car that gets 30 MPG will cost $1250 for fuel per year

According to NewsHour w/ Jim Lehrer on PBS, regional differences are due to (1) local taxes - about 19% of the total cost of gas - each locality charges their own taxes. (2) California uses a different blend (their laws and emission standards require this) than the other 49 states that is slightly more expensive (3) The further west from the Mississippi, the more expensive. (4) Gas is more expensive in the West and some Southern states.

California has the highest gas prices. Of the 49 other states that use the more common blend of gasoline, Hawaii is the most expensive.

Hopefully the upcoming gas cap will give us some relief here in the 808. :dunno:

it's also from a lack of refineries. the ones we do have are producing at max to fill the need, but we are still importing some of what we use. saying "Just build new refineries." is tougher than that. a new one on the table in arizona has taken five years to get air permits and legal stuff done. they haven't even broken ground and they say it may be 2010 before they are up. If there were refineries to process heavy oil it would make the price go down, but the cost to process is greater. oh and bush signed an energy tax break not long ago didn't he? hmmmm. prices aren't gonna be anywhere near what we were paying a year ago, ever. GOTTA LOVE BIG BUSINESS CORPORATIONS!!!!

well, here it looks like the price is going down slightly. went down 10 cents at the station at the end of my street. but still, these prices have gotten me to start working on that diesel jetta i have. if i can get that thing running, i'm going to drive it instead of the accord or datsun, like when i'm going to get parts for a car or to work. so basicly it'll be a commuter, around town car. the accord is getting about 20mpg and the datsun gets about 15mpg. i'm quite sure they could both do better if i drove them like a grandma. the jetta was said to get over 45mpg by the previous owner. so i dunno. i gotta check and see if the head is leaking coolant or something, the oil looked wierd, but then again i havent even changed it. its over 4 years old synthetic oil. anyway, it'll run and stay running, just gotta tackle the oil leakage problem and cooling issues. i bet insurance on that will be cheap.

2 Days ago it was 105.9cents/liter, yesterday it jumped to 111.0, and today we are sitting at 119.9.

Converting liters into gallons and then converting to US dollars its equivalent to $3.84/gallon.

I know there are enough gas price threads already, but you americans have it easy. Up here in canada we are paying out the ass trying to get to and from work.

Honestly, what are the oil companies doing? In the last 3 weeks, we've gone up 28cents/liter, and paying 91.9 is ridiculous. I remember back last summer when I was paying 72.9, it would cost 30 bucks to fill my tank and I thought that was acceptable. So is my math right when I'm saying in 3 weeks we've gone up 25%?

And in a year we nearly doubled? (Or soon to be, the way its climbing)

Did they just wake up one day and say "Hey, if we keep raising prices people are still gonna pay, people cant just up and change their lives and not drive anymore."

And if that is the case, and people DO stop buying gas, its gonna affect those who still are, lower demand means higher prices. And Ive always thought the demand has remained the same, so if demand drops, prices jump. Then what? $5 a gallon? Thats ridiculous.

And if we all convert to electric cars (like we all have the money for that :dunno: ) the electricity will jump in price. (Or going by practical means, it will drop, higher demand, less price... it would make sense would it not?)

It's absolutely bullshit already. Gas used to be one of the cheaper by-the-liter items, cheaper than milk, water, other car fluids. But fuck, if it keeps going like this, I'm converting to propane.

Plus, last time I saw a diesel price sign, it was 94.9. I havent paid too much attention to how their prices have climbed, but last summer I know it was 62.5. 30%+ increase on deisel!

:sad2: Fuck this. I have to drive for a living too

I'm very lucky I only live about 2 miles from work so I don't have to fill up more than one time per month if that. But it's still ridiculous that its gone up that much in so short of time b/c the felt like it.

I honestly feel that gas prices should be controled by the government and the government should help to buy some of the barrels of oil. I dunno if that would work but something needs to be done about this situation.

I typically spend about $300-350 a month on gas alone, and thats while it was in the 90's cents. Now that its up, I'm pushing 400 a month. And I dont get paid extra because of the gas. I make a decent amount of money, but its like getting more deductions you know?

Yeah I figured it also had to do with the hurricane, how long till they are good to produce oil again?

Deadhead
09-01-2005, 03:36 PM
well, They are saying 2 months or more for people to move back into their homes, but as far as the oil is concerned, i have no idea. And i drive a MINIMUM of 50 miles just to get to school and back (i'm going to 3 different schools). I am trying to find a job and it's going ok, but nothing set in stone yet. If i have to start paying through the roof like i just did, that's about 125 bucks a month, just getting to school and back every day. That's not to mention if i feel like hanging out with my friends, which is another 20 miles each time i do. I fucking hate living on the opposite side of town from where my school is, and friends... oh well... i better get this job at the muffler shop *crosses fingers*

Did they just wake up one day and say "Hey, if we keep raising prices people are still gonna pay, people cant just up and change their lives and not drive anymore."

They raise price:

A) Untill gas companies see diminishing returns.
B) To conserve supply

Problem is, demand is so high they can bump the price to $5 and still have enough people buying.

What I hope doesn't happen though in some ways it may be good. Will be riots and such.

May not be for this disaster... but if another disaster were to hit within a 3 month time frame in or around the same area then I'm sure there wont be enough people to handle the relief efforts + the looters + whatever else comes up. From there who knows where the trouble will spill over to.

in georgia they are coming down hard on the price gougers,in atlanta they were selling gas for seven dollars a gallon. here it's 3.30 a gallon. it's always higher the closer you get to flordia. the govenor stepped in. they didn't want to interfere but then they saw how much people were getting ripped off.it's a major fine of like 5000 per offence and if they gouge an elderly person it's 15000 per offence. they are going around writing tickets, the georgia commerce department that is. they say the main gas line coming into georgia will be on line tomorrow, the epa has lifted the need for clean fuels in atlanta and other areas, and the laws have been suspended to allow fuel deliveries 24 hours a day. I hope they get some of the price gouging bastards that prey on the elderly and the poor. a lot of times in rual areas when there is only one station they will try to raise the price through the roof.

if you use your truck thats one thing, but i see a lot of people driving giant vehicles around just to go to the local store for a loaf of bread. If you are a construction worker or a farmer you need a giant heavy duty truck, but you don't need one to drive the kids to school. when is the last time you saw a city mom drive her off road vechicle off road. what makes me mad is that the people wasting gas like that hurt the people who need that kind of vechicle and have no choice but to drive it. maby some of these people with the hummers will quit driving them and donate them to the forestry service or something. it would be nice,

This is very reliable information I got from the person who runs my local Mobil station. Keep in mind this information is coming from St. Louis Missouri.

By this coming Monday (in two days) gas everywhere (as in nation wide) will be $4.00 a gallon for regular unleaded. Within two weeks after that it will be $5.00 a gallon.

I just wanted to put the word out as best I could to help as many people as I could avoid getting taken by surprise.

I have a Toyota Corolla and even at $3.19 I am beginning to feel it. I just put down $800 for a new bike and I do not regret a single damned penny of it.

Thank you and buy a bike. I recommend Trek personally.

Ouch.... i can't afford gas at what it is right now.... that is, depending on how much gas, unfortuately, i HAVE to drive where i go... i can't get all the way across town in 20 minutes on my bike, that's for sure. so yeah, i'm stuck with gas prices.
