Hi,

I just bought an 88' Accord and with all used cars it has it's problems. I just replaced the transmission and was wondering what are the normal shifting rpms

it shifts from 1st to 2nd at about 3000
from 2nd to 3rd at about 3500
and from 3rd to 4th at anywhere from 3500 to 4000
is that too high?
also when it shifts I have to let up off the gas and it seems like it hits a little too hard.

can anyone make any suggestions as to what to do to get those rpms lower when shifting, and if it his normal for it to shift hard?:barf:

Its too hard to judge with just writing. How much pressure do you have on the accelerator?
Not so hard that it shakes the entire car but a nice firm shift is good. At least its not slipping!

Those RPM numbers should be pretty close if you havent changed the pressure on the accelerator while your speed is climbing.

it does it pretty much no matter how hard I push on the accelerator. Although the lighter I push it the better it shifts.

it also only idles between 500 and 1000 rpms could that be another problem?

I also have a vacum advance that's bad and some other part I don't even know that name of has a hole in it. I wonder if that would have anything to do with it.

Your not saying it idles up and down from 500 to 1000? I think you mean its idling at around 750 maybe. Well, those other items are not tranny related. Im gonna say your tranny is working properly.

yeah, mine has idled at 800 the whole time i've ever had it. i read the little owners book and it says that the ideal shift point is at 3-3.5K for our cars.
