hi guys,
i'm just about to swap the cylinder head (200.000 km...sounds like a diesel) to a 100.000 km one. is there anything particular i should consider when performing the swap (besides the classical cylinder alignment...etc...)?...was thinking to mark all hoses/wires on the intake mainfold, and leave it on the head until i've removed the head completely...(looks pretty hard to get to those bolts behind hte engine)......or is there any other (easier) way to do it?

ps...
i think the engine i have is a A20A4...if that makes any difference

your about ready to swap cylanders.......and you arent even sure what engine you have?

:)...sorry...my mistake...

i-m not sure if the european engines have the same code as in US. What i have now is a head for exactly the same engine as i have in my car now. According to the honda database here, the engine i have is an A20A4. That's why i wasn't sure if i could provide you the correct info...

Get an OEm head gasket from the dealer no aftermarket also check both cams and make sure to use the one that has less pitts and scratches.

just mark anything you have to remove, hoses etc...

like was mentioned use OEM headgasket

uhhhmm.. While the head is off, check pistons condition, cyinder wall's, cam condition, etc.. etc..

And torque everything to spec when re-instialling

thank's guys...i'll do that..
i've allready bought oem gaskets (all of them)...and the 'new' head i got, is complete...with cam and everything (that's why i replace it...my camshaft is gone...full of scratches)

my biggest concern is how to remove the intake manifold...so i'll try to remove it after removing the head....(can not imagine how to get to the bolts otherwise)

i think is better if you pay an specialist, this is dificult job to first time

Its easy man....find a head that fits on your engine. Set it to TDC. Mark every wire and plug and hose with a piece of tape and a number and then write about that number in a little note book so you know where everything goes!

Take off the VC. Take out the head bolts....take the head off....put a new head gasket on....put the new head on...timing belt....check timing.....bolt it up.....coolant....new oil....done!

well...i did the same job on a couple of fords...and an opel i think...and it was not a big deal at all...however, i never did it on a honda....the biggest difference, as i can see, is that there is a lot less space arround the engine here

but i'll give it a shot anyway :)

ok...it's done!

runs quiet like a fish now :)

Now, according to haynes manual, the cylinder head bolts have to be tightened in two steps (to 30Nm and to 68Nm)..and that's it...

According to the instructions that followed the gasket, they have to be tightened in 4 steps:
1. to 30Nm....
2. to 70Nm
3. to 70 Nm and hot engine (90degrees (Celsius))...
4. to 70 Nm and 90degrees (Celsius) after some driving

i did a sort of a mixture....the first 3 steps. Do i have to do it again after driving?

Yes. Bolts have a tendency to work and warm up/cool down, and work loose. Just pull the VC and do them, not that hard.
