My best friend has recently aquired a 3g. While I am a former owner I didnt have it long enough to do anything with it. Since he is poor and I am poor, we are curious as to mods we could perform that would get us better gas mileage, but alittle hp on the side wouldnt hurt. I was looking at Pacesetter exhaust on JCW, it's desighned for our car so I assume it has the
back pressure right. I hear cold air is good too. Any ideas, or links to cold air intakes for our cars (provided they exist) would be greatly appreciated. :super:

Start with a tune up
Plugs
wires
Cap
Rotor
Clean Throttle Body or carb
O2 sensor (s)
fuel Filter (s)
Air filter or get a cheap 92 civic SR intake off ebay and cut 3-5 inches off the filter section of the pipe and it will fit

Pacesetter's muffler sucks but you can weld another on after you get the pipe

Is pacesetter muff bad cause its not loud and obnoxious or b/c it doesnt do its job?

The muffler is bad because it flows like crap and cap = distributer cap

distributor cap that is :)

daym...dude, oxygen sensors are fricken $45...at checkers anyways, anybody know where anywhere cheaper?

these are burg warners by the way...and fuel filter from fram is $19.99 DAYM!!!!! thats alot!

I'm thinkin of buyin some cheap mandrel bend pipes from JCWhitney and weld them together with a flowmaster muffler...anyone think that is a good idea?

I dont want a straight through muffler cus I dont want anything load and obnoixous...I would really something like the world sport muffler...

The JC whitney idea is a good one I get my O2 sensors from www.nopionline.com universal ones (about 20 each) you can also get cap rotor and filters there get all at once save on shippng.

I did well with a dynomax super turbo.

Yeah turbo mufflers usually have the best flow rate. Glasspacks are really cheap but both raspy and don't flow very freely. I read a test already of 20 mufflers in car craft for under $40 a piece. The thrush turbo had the best flow, the glasspacks were the worst flow.

dynomax makes thrush as far as I know and according to their info the superturbo flows better but I think I paid 50 bucks at advanced auto parts.

this is gonna sound stupid but it makes a difference and its free. If you want to get maxx mileage make sure your tires have the correct pressure in them (damn I'm a cheap ass)

hey Admiral...
well judging by your details...you won't be able to get an intake cuz you have a crabed model...
if you wanted better mileage, you could re-tune your carb, plugs, wires, rotor distributer...and just small things like those..
i used to have an LX and i remember that thing was crazy on gas.. way better then my se-i...

its injected not 100% sure about the year. I know its injected b/c thats something we have to fix before we do anything to it.

I have learned that the O2 sensors in our cars ought to last the car's lifetime. If you pass emissions then your O2 sensors are fine. The fuel filter's condition doesn't affect gas mileage. Basically, if it gets clogged the car won't run. If it allows fuel to flow it is fine. Somewhere in the 30-60K mile range is fine for a fuel filter change interval.

Would it be cheaper to get the piping from pacesetter or have a shop do it themselves?

Depends on the shops in your area price out the pacesetter then get quotes from shop (ask for mandrel bent) I know in my area at the time pacesetter was cheaper.

can't you like spray on some rust prevention primer on the piping on the muffler to prevent it from rust?

I've been contemplating the pacesetter for a while now cus its only like $170 + $20 for shipping, shiet man, thats like under $200 for a fricken cat back, I know you get what you pay for but c'mon...its almost a no brainer...

either that or get some mandrel bent pipes from JCWhitney and weld them on with a nice muffler, preferably something not straight through which is gonna make so much noise...any preference???

If the pipe has a rusting problem it would be from the inside out, thats always how exhausts rust out. So no, coating it wouldnt help.
