I don't need hard numbers, really, just a quick e-pinion.

I've got a carbbed A20 from an '88 LX, out of the car. Gonna remove the tranny, the alt./AC compressor, the intake (carb, vacuum lines and all), and the exhaust. Given what remains, can this be moved by four guys? I know the engine/intake/exhaust/tranny H22A package that went in was TOO HEAVY for four men to support and move anywhere... I heard those bastards weigh 438lbs!

I need to get this engine out of the back of a pickup truck, dropping it maybe a foot onto cradle. Dangerous or doable?

me and a couple buddies moved a b16 w/tranny. it only took 2 big guys to put it in the back of a truck and then out again.......i'm sure just an a20 short block will be light enough for a couple guys to handle.

~shrugs~ I've lugged a turbo 350 tranny by myself and half lifted half drug a 350 block so I don't see why 4 people couldn't move a lil a20

For the A20A!

I can lift the tranni myself, I can lift the entire head myself and with no pistons and crank in the block my buddy and I can carry it no prob!

The whole things together! Good luck...and wear steel toe boots!

The H22A with trans and intake no exhaust weighs 385 lbs. I believe the A20A3 with trans and intake weighs 350 lbs. The B20A is like 300 lbs.

The numbers I got for the H22A must have included the f*cking wiring, the f*cking computer, and the f*cking axles and engine f*cking engine mounts.

I'll get some buds over and we'll move her.

Next, I'll do a rebuild and use it to supplant the aging engine in our '89 SE-i. Mmmm... rebuild... turbo....

Yup its cast iron, look it up, its in these forums somewhere. It was talked about cause someone wanted to turbo the A20A engine.

then why hasn't an aluminum block been built or designed (or at least an alloy that can take it) from an existing engine ???

make the engine lighter? now that's an idea.

the cast iron works to our advantage actualy. makes it hella stronger..especialy for its age. thats why kids on the board can take a 15 year old car and throw some boost right in there and shell still be kickin. cast iron is heavy duty shit. means that even though you have a lot of weight....you can make up for it with some extra vroom.

just replace the pistons and such. good shot of nos and youll blow the crap out of em.

Did it yesterday, with tranny, intake and exhaust intact (I did take the start off though). Sure felt like 300lbs. I remember reading somewhere that it had a cast-iron block, but I'm so used to running down the H22A specs, I keep forgetting. Don't get me started on the H22, that damn tranny weighs almost 70 pounds!

400/4 = 100lbs per person... I can lift people about 350+ lbs for a small distance, and by my picutre you can tell i'm not all that big. I was grunting a bit when lifting my friends 83 civic 1.5L but i was able to do it by my self tranny and engine together. I threw it in a wheel barrow because i'd rather work smarter than harder. But i'd say even a a20 engine shouldn't be killer. Just get a good grip and lift properly.... *chuckle...remembering funny t-shirt*

yea, engine alone with some parts youre looking at around 400lbs, this engine is not light. Any other honda engine is just an absolute horse shit comparison. Ive had f22 and d16 blocks sitting around that were soo light you could pick them up and toss em in ur trunk... there is no fucking way you could do that with this a20 block, its damn heavy.

me and my friend picked up a 4g63T (dsm turbo) with auto tranny, both full of fluids and put it on the ground...so 4 guys should be able to handle a a20......i'm 6'3" 145lb....so i'm basically a twig.
