been wondering is this something to persue ?? i mean the b18 gsr vtec head could wake up our little motors in a big way. sevral issue need to be adressed im sure.

bore spacing ????
head bolt patterns ??
Vtec controller ( which is pretty easy an msd rev actuated timer would work just fine)
and the overall ecu programming ???( would require a stoand alone efi system <<<<< )

but it looks to be somethign worth investigating ???

i had some thoughts about the h22a head ????

or maybe the b18 vtec head ???

it could work but i need people to get out there and start doing reasearch !!!

Was it the guy from lude speed that tryed to do this to an a20 in a gen2 lude? I rembering reading about it, it being possible, but not very feasable. Not much help here, but I think I rember something about alot haveing to be done to the oil passages, a custom gasket, and that some of the head bolt holes didn't line up.

Yeah, the bolt holes didn't line up, and many of the oil and coolant channels were off. It basically was a dead end I think.

that would be friggin awesome. i've heard it said that A20 heads are really inefficient anyway, and anything cleaner would be an improvement, but if we could get VTEC too, that'd be awesome.

could this be done to a 3gee that's carbed? would it matter for the VTEC timer/switch/whatever?

hmm carb vtec... hmm but adjusting the fuel... hmm maybe a non-synchonous carb... with larger jets to richen the mixture @ WOT...
but then I guess a synchronous carb will work just as well... not sure how it would be on gas milage though

well,
my friend told me about this, but the guy old civic engine with prelude head.
i said no way, it can't be done.
he still says that it is possible.

you would need to get your hand on a B series gasket and head

I think that the most possible swap would be the B20A head on the A20A....

But again you'll face problems such as the timing belt.

how can you swap the twin cam head with single cam head.
it is impossible unless you do a lot a lot of work to it.
if some one has this kind swap show it? i want to see it. i won't believe untill i see it.

vtec is not necessarily twin cam.

there are so many damn incarnations of vtec now it's stupid but...

saying vtec is twin cam only is as silly as saying vtec is for V6's only.

Just because the NSX was the first thing honda put vtec on, doesnt mean it's the only thing that has it.

Q: "My Honda's engine says 'VTEC' on it, does that mean that I have a REALLY high performance engine too?"

A: Not necessarily. See, Honda figured out a couple of different uses for VTEC engines: being really powerful (the initial use), and being really efficient (which came along next). The Civic HX, for example is really a VTEC-E (Efficiency), and is tuned for outstanding gas mileage. As the years progressed, Honda decided to tune a VTEC engine to be somewhere in the middle: both efficient and relatively powerful. This "mixed" VTEC is the one that has found it's way into the Accords, some Civics, and the Acura CL. Most VTECs are SOHC (or "Single Over Head Camshaft"), only the DOHC ("Dual Over Head Camshaft") VTEC engines are truly tuned for maximum performance. Don't get me wrong, the other VTEC engines are all great too, but the truly "high-strung" VTEC engines still are available only in the S2000, NSX, Prelude, Integra (GS-R, R-Type), Civic Si and Del Sol. ("High strung" = high horsepower/liter ratio.) Basically if your VTEC engine doesn't have DOHC stamped on to it somewhere then you either have a SOHC VTEC-E, or the SOHC VTEC.

I pulled that off a site that I tihnk ACCORD EX posted.

Funstick, have you had any more thoughts on putting a vtec head on the A20A? Did you check into Carotman's feedback:

"I think that the most possible swap would be the B20A head on the A20A"

been looking at gasket scans no go. coolant issues are very serious.

Thanks anyway for checking it out. I respect the work you do in performance increase for our cars - carb and efi. I read all of your posts that I can find!

you know there was a DOHC 3gee made in Japan. Maybe trying to git a junkyard there to get 1. If so, we need to get a few, right guys?

Some are way ahead of you. Check in the Engine Swap section.
