sometimes when I start my 89 SE-i, the tach will jump way up to about 5 grand as soon as I turn the key and it sounds like it is not going to start. Almost like the battery is almost dead. After it starts the rpms are normal and it runs just fine.
I have checked the battery and it seems to be fine. It does not matter if it is the first start of the morning or if the car is fully warmed up.
Other times I hit the key and the tach barely moves above 1 grand and it starts just fine!??? Any ideas???

you mean only the takes moves to 5 K or the whole engine revs to 5 K !

if only the tac , then test the ignition coil ! ( in the faqs or how to's )

Distributor?

yea only the tach needle moves up..the engine is still trying to start. As soon as it starts, it idles just below 1k. I was thinking coil or distributor also but once it starts it runs great. I do have another coil. I will change that and see what happens.
