Miles per tank? I get anywhere from 400 to 500.

depends where I'm driving, City stop and go, I get about 200 miles, thats it.. But highway, I can do 200 miles on a quarter tank

I usually don't go by miles cuz I fill up at various levels depending on where and how far I'm gonna be driving. But for MPG, I usually get around 27-29 for everyday driving. On the highway I've gotten as high as 33 with the a/c on, and 34.5 with the a/c off, and that usually stays pretty consistant.

25.5-26 city driving total miles sense last fill up divided by gallons put in.

mines kinda bad, but its been getting better gradually over the past few months, kinda wierd. On a full tank i get about 250-300. Thats after riding on empty(or what appears to be empty) for a week. I almost never let it get to the point where the gas light comes on, i'm too afraid that i'll get stranded w/o gas. So how many gallons should i have left when the light comes on?

umm, my city driving is 29 mpg, and my highway mileage is a lil above 32.

:werd: Also depends of if I've been pretending like my car is fast lately...it IS, of course, but y'know what being lightening fast will do to your mileage...

I think something is wrong w/ my fuel gauge. I says that I have 3/4 of a tank when I am at 90-100 miles. And then when I hit about 250 or so. I am on empty. WTF? Also, uphill, my needle raises to more full, and vis versa. Is this a gauge problem, or fuel pressure? Possibly I would need to replace the fuel filters?

Fuel Filter change (good investment)

I noticed when I used shitty Arco gas, I got horrible gas mileage, whereas with Shell I get the best. I've done my comparison shopping with gasoline (Chevron, Exxon, etc) and Shell (Texaco) gives me the best mileage.

I've done alot of that experimenting too with different stations, as well as different octanes. Down here mine does best on Sunoco 89 octane (my car doesn't like ANY 87 octane wherever it comes from). Second best would be BP (Amoco) 89. Up in IL we didn't have any Sunocos, and it did best on Citgo 89.

I never use the cheap stuff in mine. I filled up at one of those discount places once when I had my truck, and my MPG went down about 7 MPG on just that one tank, which was a long highway trip without even any city driving. Never again!

This has something todo with your gauge and the shape of our gas tanks... Ours get smaller at the bottom so it will seem to go faster after half-way. With the hill thing, the gasoline in the tank flows to the back and b/c of the shape of the tank, this tricks the gauge to reading a higher level of gas and vice versa.

Almost all of my miles are interstate miles. I average 70 mph and get between 35 and 37. The 37 is without ac on.

Still. Should I only be getting 250 miles per tank?

no, unless you have a lot of performance parts and accelerate harder and brake hard

or you have a fuel leak or one or two of your pistons aren't functioning normally

... you should definatly be getting better mpg than that!!

i have a stock dx with 85k mi's on it. after a carb. and emissions rebuild and replacement, and removing the a/c, plus fine tuning the settings on my carb, I have been able to get 44 mpg on the highway at sea level. no lie!!

umm, a lot of weird mileages here.
On the open highway with a full load I went 433 miles on 10.1 gallons, that was mostly through Kentucky and Tn.
In the city I get about 380 miles out of a full tank

I'll replace the fuel filters and get it checked out at a local mechanic. A trusty one at that. I don't want anyone ripping me off.

hmmm, that would sound right if you said 433 for a whole tank... that's odd
