ok, well, i have a 1988 lx 5-spd, w/ the workhorse A20A1(carbed), of which i have painstakingly reaplaced the main- and rod-bearings in while the engine was still in, but im still having things that go bump under the hood, especially at or above 2500 rpm, or when the engine is reverse-revved by downshifting, the knock is actually two knocks, a knock that is high-pitched, and only knocks at high-rpm, and then the dreaded low end thud that is destinctive at idle rpm, well, i just happened to run across a cpl of "jewels" at a local junk yard, one is a 1989 lx-i w/ efi A20A3 and automatic tranny. The other is a prelude, with a forward-leaning (just like the 3g) efi A20A3 w/ 5 spd tranny, but i am however getting either or both engines because they are IDENTICAL to each other in both mounting in car, and all parts on them. but, i was gonna put one of em in my 3g, but i was wanting to make sure that the A20A3 will bolt up to an A20A1 tranny, because i dont really want to go through the whole mess of changing engine and trans, anyone that wants to help is welcome, also make an offer on A20A3 if i get both of em (only one will fit in my car anyway), because it will be for sale.

Yep, I mounted a A20A1 5 speed tranny to my 89 A20A3 engine, when I did the 5 speed swap.

The tranny will fit but you'd probaby be happier taking the trans from the prelude, it has sportier ratios. It will bolt right in.

After the Carb tranny was put in, I was extactic. It's works fine and my car hauls ass now.
