 Hello y'all. I went out last night and finally decided to advance my timing. I don't have a timming light, so i was just going to do it by ear. How far does the distributor normally rotate? I ask this, because I turned it counter clockwise about 1/4"-1/2" and it didn't seem to want to go any farther. Is this normal?.. If so, then that means I advanced it as far as it will go. Even so, I still get no pinging, even at high revs. Does this sound right? Is the ecu counter acting the advance by retarding the timing??? If so, what would be the purpose of advancing the timing if the ecu is just going to adjust it self back to normal???

Any insight on this matter would be great.

Thanks
Peace out....

did you do it clock wise or counter CW ?

I'm sure it was counter clock wise.( to the left)

later.

The ecu may be able to couter act the vaccum advance if it's not hooked directly to the manifold... but it can't affect the physical timming since the distributor is locked with the rotation of the cam... only on new electronic ignitions does the ecu adjust timing.
I think the electronic ignition uses a cam position sensor or someting...
