I'm looking for the cheapest way to get a tune up without having to do it entirely by myself.

Question-So can someone give me a list of all the PARTS I need to buy to get a complete tune up?

I want to take the parts to a shop and let them do it. I was told this is the best way.

I have a 1986 honda accord dx

Alot of the shops I've called have quoted me 150-170 for a tune up. Is that right? Will buying my own parts really cut the cost?

Air filter, cap, rotor, plugs, and oil filter at least. You could do more but I don't know how far you want to go. I would suggest a set of wires and PCV also.

here is the most common list:
both fuel filters (front and back);
airfilter;
spark plugs;
spark plug wires;
distributor cap and distributor rotor.

you can add carburator cleaner to clean the carb, or fuel system cleaner.
you can change your engine oil and oil filter.
you can change your transmition oil.
the list can go on and on, but that is most common things people do to the cars to make them run like new.
