My battery light is on, i just changed the alternator and i believe the car is running off the battery, mind u i have a truck battery in there since the other one is dead, but i dont think that should affect it.

any help is appreciated.

Start with checking the basic things.

1. Check the alternator belt tension, and for wear.
2. Battery terminals- clean.
3. Battery cables- clean and tight, also follow wires and check the connections on other end of wire.
4. Connections to the alternator, make sure the big white wire on top is tight.
5. Start engine and put volt meter on battery terminals- should read at least 13.75 volts.
6. Have your battery tested, might have a bad cell.

Sounding like a bad alt. Any way a few more things to check.

Check fuse #1 under the dash.
Check fuse # 8 under the hood in the fuse/ relay box.

If the 2 fuses are good. I'm not sure what engine or model you have but if you have a choke heater, you can disconnect it while engine is running. If the light goes out the choke heater is bad.

Turn the key to on (not starting the engine), disconnect the connector on the alternator. If light goes out the alternator is bad.

If you are asking about the choke heater wire, I think it is the white/blue wire.

Turn the key to on (not starting the engine), disconnect the connector on the alternator. If light goes out the alternator is bad.

is it the white wire?

No, that big white wire on top goes to the battery. There is a plug on the back of the alternator with a few wires in it. This is for the voltage regulator. First make sure that plug is hooked up. Feel around behind the alt. for a loose wire bundle, maybe it's loose or not even connected.
