View Full Version : So my Mitsuba starter is pulling 150 amps...

Yeah, I bought a used starter for my car as a backup. I took it to AutoZone and they tested it. He told me it pulls 150 amps, but it is only supposed to pull 115 amps. Dude said eventually it would start killing the charging system (battery, alternator??) and the starter would fail as well. Could someone elaborate on this for me?? Is it true that's how starters work? I figured they'd just see if it "needed" 12 volts, but I guess batteries are measured in CCA as I think about it now...

He didn't really seem intent on trying to sell me a new (reman.) starter either... :cool:

high amperage draws can cause damage to systems, such as shortening battery life ect. Teh mnual list amperage draw as high if its over 200 amps at .8kw, 230 amps at 1kw and 340 amps at 104 kw

Helm's manual?? Maybe explain the kilowatt thing a little would be tight. I understand electricity somewhat, but what on our cars put out kw's??? :)
