thats a tough question, what do you mean change? like do something to make it faster? i'd say most peeps go w/ an intake cause they seem to be the easiest to put in. 1st thing i did when i got my car was repaint the hood (was really warn looking compared to the rest of the car).

The very first thing I put in my accord and I mean the first was some gas cause the dealership I brought it from didn't and it was on E. But back to the question; the first thing I did was had the the stereo replaced and new speaker wire ran.

I got a stereo. After that, the tape holder, then started on the road of repairs.

Ripped out the tape deck. Ripped out the 4x15 watt speakers. Replaced that stuff along with new wires.

Then I blew the engine after cooking the clutch, I guess it could not hold 6000 rpm for long. The clutch slipped and the tach shot all the way up untill POW.

I am just about to replace the stereo. The car has been "mine" for only a few weeks. But I have been driving it for a long time. But first thing I did, was new fan belts.

Thats weird, I have electric fans. So does every 3g I have ever seen. Did you mean The alternator/water pump, power steering and A/C belts?

I redid my bumpers. Took all day. But they still look awesome, 10 months later. I suggest everyone do it.

lol @ deadlight "My anus is bleeding" avatar

1st thing was the BASS!
When I was like 12 I hooked up a Clarion booster EQ to these 5 1/4 2-way bookshelf speakers in the trunk. :-D I eventually worked my way through a couple amps, tweeters, mids... now thath I think about it I've gone through more stereo crap than parts to keep the car running. I have yet another system in progress, I'm just waiting for the bass amps so I can design and build the amp rack (this system is insane to say the least). It makes the ride 100x more enjoyable

It's fun to do that even with a stockie, follow these simple instructions kiddies:

1.pour two spots of oil on an abandoned road just ahead of your front tires.
2.pull over oil slicks
3.pull hand brake waaaaaaaay back
4.GIVE HER HELL!

Transferred stereo and subs, then bought new deck, continued w/the rest of the sound stuff.

Then tint, short ram (get cold air) intake, lowering, performance cam....next....header and cat

full tune up (cap, rotor, plugs, wires, fuel filter, pcv, set timing, air filter) The next thing was replace all the burned out bulbs and fix the nasty ass cooling system. I drove it for 3 mths without a radio, I just did that last mth :D

I would say I got everthing fixed that needed to be accept the AC and anything that needed replacing was replaced with somthing better. Like the exhaust needed to be replaced so instead of going stock I went with 2.25" piping and a straight through muffler.

Zetec greater than Vtec? Maybe on a non Si Civic.
The Ford has a 145hp 2.3 litre.
My friends 92 accord non vtec had that with a F22.
Ever heard of a little motor called the F20C? Or perhaps the H22 or B18C5?

Damn straight, F20C owns you all!!!
I thought Focus had a 2.0, but still, F20C owns all of you! Hahaha!

Yea the ztec originally was a 2 litre, the new one is a 2.3.

ZETEC not ZTEC, Ford is not out to take the VTEC name. The Focus does offer a Zetec motor with 130hp/135tq. The all new PZEV motor is 2.3 with 145hp/150tq.

Now to compare the civic and the focus.....

SOHC VTEC - 127hp
FORD ZETEC - 130hp

Not a big dif so it's neck and neck.......

Let's do some 1/4 mile times done by autoweek...

Focus ZX3 Hatch runs the 1/4 mile at 16.9 that's in Autoweek
Civic EX 2 Door runs the 1/4 mile at 17.47 that's in Autoweek too

OK so you wanna talk Civic Si? ok we can do that

Look at MotorTrend Magazine for example:
Honda Civic Si
Ford Focus SVT
MazdazSpeed Protoge
Dodge Neon SRT-4

To make a 4 page story short, Focus SVT won in handling, test course time, and Skidpad G's....... they only prized it didnt take home was the 1/4 mile time, they turbocharged Neon took that home.

OK so let's talk Type R... Yeah yeah yeah Honda has Type R..... Integra/RSX Type R and Civic Type R. impressive numbers no doubt. But still again America get shafted by not getting a great car here in the US. But if we want to take a look at Type R let's take a peek at Focus RS. 2.0 Turbo that makes gobs of power and can def give i-VTEC motors a day in hell. I shall not even dip into Cosworth Focus/Escort which makes SVT look like a child.

I would like to point out that I do not in anyway hate Honda or am a Honda basher. I like Honda very much and my first 2 cars were Hondas and 89 Accord sedan and a 92 Civic sedan with a B18C1 (and yes I do know what that is). it was fun but after I wrecked it I wanted to start with something new, everyone and their mother has a Civic, I wanted something different... is that wrong.

I enjoy this board very much and the people on it have contributed time and effort to it. I would also like to contribute my thoughts to it too. Don't get mad at me for posting my opinion.

Nice comparison,
One thing though
SOHC VTEC - 127hp
DOHC FORD ZETEC - 130hp larger engine.

I read that article as well.Too bad Honda does not bring their best stuff to America. Its also nice that most Cosworths do not come here either.

Nice to see you failed to compare the ZETEC the F20C.

Nice to see you failed to compare the ZETEC the F20C.

the SOHC Focus still puts more torque to the ground 125/tq, opposed to the Civic's 110/tq ......

That's base model against base model..... LX vs DX even the LX Focus would give the EX a good fight.

Why even compare the F20? it's in a completely different market and price range? If you wanna do that the low 30k range, go see how much oyu can get a Mustnag Cobra for? 35k as opposed to the S2000's 33k...... no doubt about it.....

S2000 a great car no doubt, 150/tq to the Cobra's 390/tq..... that's a laugh.......

just a side note... there are Focus --> Mustang 302 conversion kit

I stil have to see a Civic --> F20 conversion kit.....

Sorry Focus wins again.....

We are just beating a dead horse though

Yes we are beating a dead horse. A dead 'stang perhaps?
How about comparing the Civic Si to the focus, it has 160 hp, is the same displacement. and its the midgrade compared to the new type R.

You can get a more than just a Cobra for 35k, how about the Supercharged SVT Cobra for 35k. My old neighbor has one, he can hit 100 in about the time it takes me to get into third.
I want to see that Focus 5.0 kit. The S2000 motor swap in a Civic Si is not too difficult, I have seen one in a RSX at a show.

Btw I am not trying to diss on Ford, its just that the 4cyl is not their bread and butter. The WRC Focus is pretty badass, that is the Cosworth. It does very well proving that all wheel drive is not nessasary in rally. That is also a rare engine. But Ford's bread and butter is the V8, I built up one hell of a 460 last year. It smoked my ass, and its in a 5,800lb car.

Very true Kroy, 4 cyl. are not the strong point of Detroit automakers, I feel that's the reason the import scene has not only risen to the levels that it is at today, but is also the reason Detroit fell so far (although I must say they're improving greatly)
The problem is that Detroit is trying to beat Japan at their own game, If Ford/Chrysler/GM would just build better V-8 RWD cars, i.e. 25+ mpg, handling on par with many Hondas, at a low price. They would own the market, they never would have lost it in the first place. They have the technology, and it's becoming more widely used in their cars, but they waited too long.

I agree. Chrysler has come a long way with their Neons, the original ones sucked, but not as bad as K cars. Ford has a hit with the Focus, much better than the Escort it replaced. Gm still blows on the lower end though, it seems they elvolve at the rate of a snail. The factory performance from Detroit with 4cylinders usually involves a turbo, witch is nice, but it hides the fact that the engines are not as well tuned as they should be. Also they tune them for the low end rpm , not the top. The aftermarket availability of parts on American 4cyl cars still leaves lots to be desired. There are plenty of parts available, just not enough competition to bring prices down to compete with the Japanese.

I have a Tale of Two cities to tell.
The first is Dayton, Ohio. A big GM town that has been on a 20 year downturn when it comes to the economy and job rate. Its sad to see, I have family there. I know a few people that work with the UAW (united auto workers) union, and they get paid crap.

The second is Columbus, Ohio. A big Honda town that has been on a 20 year boom in the economy. The plant is an hour north, but most of the supplies come from there. Honda supports 110 Ohio componies with over 13,000 employees, and has pumped in more than 40 Billion (thats with a B) dollars into the local economy. I know several people that work directly for, or indirectly for Honda and they all make a decent living.

here is th focus 5.0 swap

this is just one Focus that has the swap... I'm looking for the site that sells the whole kit.

And I'd say the S2000 to Civic swap is much more than not too difficult...
