Auto 87 lXi wont shift at 45-50mph? no OD?

Just bought a nice 87 LX1 2.0 auto...actually traded a PS2 for her.

a little red idiot light comes on PCI light?

in D4 it will go up to 45, then the rpms will riase (no shift) then after a while it will change from high rpms to a nuetral like rev.

in D3 it isnt as bad...will go over 50mph but the rpms go up as well.

no fourth gear? no OD? chip? Tranny?

yea a ps2, 2 controllers and 4 games...

all i ahve to do is figure the tranny problem and fix the moonroof leak..(which i found in freq asked Qs)

in D4 it gets to 45 and revs high?? sounds like what mine was doing, but at 30. i talked to my mechanic and he said the fluid and tranny are so old that it's not pumping the fluid through like it should. that's of course up until the fluid is warmed up. he told me to start in the low gears and take it up. it may take up to 15 min. of driving before the fluid is warm enough to shift correctly. i've basically been driving my auto like a manual. yes i know it's not the best for the tranny and i don't have the money for a new one. if i do get a new tranny i may hit you guys up on a list of all i'll need for a 5spd swap. hope this helps a little.

autos can be just as effective, dont listen to the hype...

or maybe that doesnt apply to accords...not sure...

Im a V8 domestic guy usually (not a hater though) I love my accord.

Sticks make a big differance in Hondas, you need to rev high to get the power. I agree with a V8 it does not matter too much.

do auto honda work w/ torque converters like domestic rwd? i just upgraded that for higher rpms...

Yes hondas have torque converters on autos. Import drag racers use autos for consistency, and there are upgraded converters available. I do not know if one would fit a 3g though.

yeh, i'd try changing the fluid first,...you could possibly try a stall test, i think pauls manual has the spec's, but if i recall, it should stall around 2200rpm,but dont quote me as i haven't done one for awhile
Any good transmission sho[p should be able to do some pressure checks which will point to the fault,...but it may just need a flush and change of fluid

i can't believe nobody's said "do a 5 speed swap!" yet.

i would def try and change the fluid first. also try and adjust the TV cable. i don't have an auto and don't know much about them but i think you can try that. talk to Mike (A20A1). he's helped me with auto questions in the past for my girlfriend's car and know all about our car's automatics.

its 2.0 lxi...trying to figure the engine and specs...i was reading alot of noob info....cant seem to pinpoint.

my auto tranny did the same thing .. D4 dont work .. D3 works ... and 2 works .. - - when i drive ..i start on D3 .. and 1st gear goes all the way up to 6700rpms .. and i drop it to 2 .. and it shifts to 2nd gear .. and goes all the way up to 6700rpms .. and after that ... nothing.. no 3rd or 4th gear ... max speed? with the 20 gears? 65 mph .. and thats it .. 65 mph .. bouncing the needLE .. what did i do to fix it? try changing the fluid .. didnt work .. what else did i do to the auto tranny ? .. NOTHING threw that piece and everything along wid it AWAY .. so im trannyLess .. but NOT FOR LONG .. hehehe .. i got me a handy dandy complete 5spd swap .. sitting right next to the car .. slowly getting put in .. so i suggest a 5spd swap ... how much i pay for mine? 120 .. bitesize paid about 200 he said .. - so any where in that range would be your price for 5spd swap

grrrr...doubt the clutch packs are bad...no od...could be jsut needs flushed good...trash in the valves..
