i took the lx this morning. i start the car let it warm up.
did'nt even sputter and fast idle was fine.
put's it in drive and it shut's off every time the gas was pushed.
unless it was in nuetral and revving the gas.
it's sputter's halfway to work. i go back out 15min's later and it idle's fine.
on the way from work it was fine then it start's that sputtering shit again.
i looked inside and the 1st venturi was leaking then i thought the float was over full again but it was'nt.
i turned off the car and it stop's leaking start it back up and i was still leaking.
so to solve this i adjusted the a.f screw AGAIN.
what COULD it be??????????????????
and can someone PLEASE tell me the appriate way to adjust the a/f screw?:sadwave:

i believe your problem is venturies. they can get loose and leak.
it is very easy to tighten the secondary ventury but the primary is the bitch. you have to remove the choke to get to the screw.
adjusting the A/F mixture screw won't give you better perfomance, it can make it worse if it is not set right.
to set it right, let it warm up till fans kick in. screw AF screw all the way in ( you may have to adjust idle screw).
after that, start unscrewing the AF screw. when RPM stop rising, go back about 1/4 turn and you should be set.

i went out there tonite & the engine was cold.
i looked inside niether venturi was leaking.
when the idle went down & the engine was warmed.
It was still fine; it even stabilized the idle by itself.
i revved it 3 time's then it started the sputtering again.
looked inside the primary venturi and it was spitting out gas.
what i did noticed though.
when it would attemp to shut off the venturi whould give out gas.
then once the idle stabilize's the venturi would stop giving the gas.
it whould do this for about a minute or two then stablize.

so that's the a/f adjustment's done?
cool
thanx

Is your vacuum advance diaphram hoses leaking? Sounds like a vacuum leak to me.

grab the vintury and wiggle around. it should be nice and tight.

i don't know how much pressure should be apllied but it did'nt wiggle or it veerry little moved as the same for the 2nd barrel.
i disconnected the advance plug and the idle went down or about to shut off.
i even tested the slow-mix solenoid. while the engine running and it shut off.
so everything's fine.
i adjusted the a/f screw and it was fine afterwards
thanx

Let us know if anything else happens. I was working on my car a couple days ago and I was adjusting the timing and I found out the next day I forgot to unplug the vac. adv. hoses. So that kinda explained why it ran like crap for a day. But I still have a big vacuum leak near the carb.

well i drove it too work.
let him take the lxi, so no shutting off, now after i had adjusted the a/f screw though that mornig sputteriing came back so i'm gonna have to aglin the choke. also i noticed that bout 4,800rpm and up i seems to lag. i had advace the timing a little and it seems to help.
thanx man i'll give you more info

i kinda made my version of a cai (til i get the real one)(i used this car basically to test)
i plug the air bleed valve.
i overrode the thermovalve's in the back of the engine.
did the choke aglingment which works better now.
when i did the cai i plugged the vac line that goes on the pass. side of the air cleaner box.
i drove it around and when i went to stop it was high @ hi idle.
adjusted the screw . now the idle is unsteady. and everything is on right.
also i had to adjust the a/f screw AGAIN.
now the damn things running rich.
also when i pump the brake's repeativly the idle goes higher.
halfway home the rpm's drop to about 400-500.
it vibrate's but not alot either.the gas pedal is'nt as loose either i think.
WTF GIVES . . . . . . . .HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
