Tail Light Conversion :)

heh heh heh... I GOT'S ME AN IDEA! :eek:
have any of you seen those new lexus cars... they have regular tail lights on the outside... but on the trunk part they have round ones.... now i got to thinkin... that's the same setup as the 88 LX... (my car).... so since my car needs a new painjob anyhoo... i was thinkin should i try a bod-mod?
here's what i want to do.....
1) remove trunk tail lights
2) cut a hole in a pannel that will support new round light and that will fit in the place of old taillight
3) weld in the pannel where light was
4) fiberglass body filler where any gaping holes are.... and/or fill the space between the new pannel and that black plastic that holds the license plate (make it look cleaner)
5) wire it up and paint it
NOW: since the reverse light is on that piece i'd have to cut a hole somewhere to support that too... i could just jerry rig it or i could cut a hole in the new round taillight and clear silicone it in place or super glue it... (technicalities)

or i could do this.....
1) take out old tail light
2) cut a hole in it and put in the round taillight
3) put old taillight ,now with round taillight, back into place
4) fiberglass fill the seems between the top, bottom and the black plastic part of the trunk
5) wire JUST the round light
6) sand it and paint the old taillight part along with the fiberglass filler to smothe it out.. this way just the round light will show...

well it's an idea... what do you think i should do?

Personally I think it's way to much work, and it's not worth it. But I figure if you have that much ambition go for it. Me I'd leave it alone or try and make custom rear tailights out of plexiglass or some shit.

There is a yellow 3rd gen arround here with those tail lights it also has euros(they look really bad!), the rest of the car looks like shit.

i like the lexus tail lights ...if you have to do a paint job ....why not try to modify your trunk to have some after market tail lights fit ?

i think it will look like shit unless you have that jesse james from monster garage do it. even if it was done up all nice i just think it would look stupid...but one of a kind.

Do it bro, but I have a simpler Idea that I was planning like 3 days before I read this, I was thinking of buying some sticker vinal in black so it matches the plastic trim and sticking it to my stock tail lights and cutting out round holes for each tail light

im thinking of getting integra tail lights. i think they would look pretty darn cool.

too many people have the IS 300 tailights now-a-days. since it came out, ive seen it on billions of cars.

hehe... I did my tails back in 98... they've fallen out a few times... so if you are gonna do the mod do it right and weld the metal in place... on a side note there is a brand new bastard mitsubishi galant running around with my tails but he paid the bucks to have them done right.
oh and I didn't bother with the reverse lights.
I'll dig up a pic in a few minuets.

i got 2000 prelude tails on my hatch, the body shop did a perfect mold. the stock taillights and the 2000 prelude tailights arent that different

teg tails would be cool too and i think it wouldn't be too much trouble to fit either as i believe that they are 2 piece.
