In the AM or after the car has sat for a long period of time...when i start the car it is a struggle to keep it running... I get black exhaust and it stumbles when revvng

After warm up.. there is no riching out.. the only problem after warm up is with the A/C on and while stopped at a traffic light or stop sign the idle drops so low it shudders the entire car almost stalling...but it'll recoup and come back up before stalling.......

Please help... anyone got any ideas

Shops are evil!!! Not really if you do not mind paying some random jackass to tinker under your babies hood.

Here are a couple of howtos on tuning a carb. DO THIS!!! Its pretty simple.

If that does not work you may need to rebuild the carb, its not too difficult if you have patience.

ok...figured out the hard way what part of the problem was... Since it has gotten cool here in the Am i noticed my car would never warm up.... thus a stuck thermostat..replaced it and now the major issue seems to have resolved itself.

It now idles at about 2000rpm in the AM at start-up then it idles at about 1250-1500rpm during the day... but here is the catch...

ately at a stop light it will be idling just fine and then will drop to about 800rpm then 400-500rpm and then stall...

Any suggestions:confused:

Thanks in advance

I had the same prob I had to replace the choke .... but before I did that I used a carb cleaner spray that worked pretty well as a temp fix.

1st check for vacuum leaks which are notorious for killing idle.
Spray carb cleaner around vacuum lines, carb, manifold, gaskets and notice any increase in idle

Then check the big vacuum suckers: EGR, PCV, brake booster..

Try and plug as many emission vacuum crap. Tap into vacuum lines with a vacuum gauge, normal vacuum @ idle ~ 18..20in

If everything looks ok, dirt in carb might be the culprit. How's ur gas filler pipe? ..rusty? ..gas smell?
