Not quite a 3g, but a 5g.
A friend of mine brought his car into the shop this weekend to have all the dents removed, bumpers molded, door handles molded, and complete paint, here's the first day

Hey kicker1_solo,
Go the self employed route, you can make some serious cash with custom cars. If I am ever in Wa I will have to drop by and let you do some of your magic on my car. I love your work! I can't wait to see the results.

anywayz nice civic This is a weekend hobby, not a full time business. Let's keep that out of this forum though, don't want another war going on in here.

And come on by anytime you want kroy.

Thanks for the offer.
Weekend hobbies can turn into big money. My friends dad worked as a car salseman for years going nowhere. He invested $1000 into making bottled water on weekends back in the mid 80s before it got trendy. Ten years later he was a millionaire. He now races his BMW Z3 in the SCCA. He drives around in a Caddy SUV that he calls "My Beater" He was able to retire at the ripe old age of 45.

and damn. thats a lot of bondo. once again, this is a small town and this doesn't happen very often, not enough to pay the bills anyways. We'll open up full time someday and this will be my job, but until then.......

And there's fiberglass under all the bondo just so you know. Bondo is the very last body filler we use.

I have a few complaints about what the owner wants to do, just a disagreement in taste is all though. I suggested that we shave the line that runs all the way along the trunk but he didn't want to. I think the front bumper is ugly, and he needs to get his exhaust redone, he's gonna end up melting his bumper lol.

ya i was gonna say the exhaust looks a little funny

i like it...i don't think the fb looks that bad actually

10-25-2003, 06:03 AM
The bumper doesn't look that bad, but the exhaust needs to at least be moved over. I would go with a much nicer looking muffler also, but I guess that's just personal taste and I supposed the nicer rolled in mufflers don't sound quite as loud.

The customer is always right.

If thats what they're paying you to do thats what you have to do. Yo can always make suggestions but ultimately its his car and his style.

Not going to make any money if you tell him his bumper selection is ugly, even though it might be.:)

If he cracks it then we refiberglas it, bondo, then paint again. He's going to have blue pearl flames on the front which will be REALLY hard to fix the paint if he does crack it, so we're just hoping he doesn't.

then we masked off the interior and sprayed color on the door jams, inside the gas door, the trunk, and underside of the hood, we're not doing the engine bay because he's going to wait until he pulls the motor to drop a H22a in there, we'll paint it then.

eek! you should use a respirator!
I like what you did with the door handles, I dont think I have seen that before. Do you think that with the consent movement of those and the fact that they are plastic, that you would have problems with the seems cracking?

This paint isn't too bad, but when we do the clear coat it's a must. My cousin did the door handles on his civic and on a very cold night one of them cracked, but the driver's door hasn't had any problems even though it's the one that gets used the most. He said he always keeps this in his garage, so hopefully it won't get below freezing levels and crack.

and maybe make the front end a little bit neater:rolleyes: It all depends on the amount of dents and how much you want painted. For this accord we fixed the dents, molded the bumpers and door handles, and filled the holes that were behind the door moldings, painted everything except the engine bay and charged about $3,500 plus materials.

Sorry for so many pics, I'm just really excited about this, I think it came out rather well. The flames might be a little hard to see unless you have high resolution, and there's flames down both sides of the car but I couldn't find them with my camera do to the lack of light in the shop. After he gets his car all back together and his 19s on we're gonna do a photoshoot, I'll be sure to get some more pics up after that.

Looks good but you must have to do a lot of wet sanding since your spraying out in the open w/o a booth. I cant wait to have my car done but its hard to find a good body shop that i know will do good work and not need you to sell a kidney. I may have a guy that works for the Audi/Porsche dealer do my car but his estimate was higher than i expected plus i have to provide the paint as well. So im gonna check out a few other places before i decide because i saw his work and know its good and will hold up well over time.

Why didn't he get mesh for his bumpers? Its kind of naked without it, but good luck puttin it in now...

Looks good but he better be careful with that kit cause its not as easy to fix something when its all molded...

When I get my civic I'll have to have you guys do the paint...

So where is your shop at? Is it up toward PIR?

the owners a dumbass. one month till th h22 swap? should have done the swa first before paint. ESPECAILY for such a short time till the swap. a month? shoulda waited. now he has to sweat it out and hope they dont scratch his paint.

i would DEFFINATLy have you do my bumper and body work and paint if you were around here.

that guy has seriously bad taste in what to do to a car...white?? :barf:
But you guys did an outstanding job on his car. My buddy had a really similar job done on his car and they took like 3 weeks to get his car finished. And they didnt even do as good of a job on the door handles as you guys did. You guys are awesome.

yea.... white hondas don't really cut it. they show the rust worse. i'm not talkin crap or anything its just that im bitter about having a rust hole the size of texas on the drivers side rear qtr panel of my '90. but its all good cuz im gettin it fixed (sheet metal weld-in) and im gettin the car painted BLACK!!!!
im gonna do the interior too...'lude seats (i hope), black carpet, blue dash highlights. got a set of EX rims that look OK (better than the shitty plastics that came on the thing.

OH BTW...SWEET ASS JOB!!!! I WISH I HAD THE CASH TO GET PRO WROK LIKE THAT ON MY CAR!!! PROPS.

yea but white hides tons of body work... like that. My one 88lxi was white and had the rear wheelwells totally bondo'd, and had misc collision work done to it before and it was absolutely gorgeous when it was painted before i sold it. My current black lxi if you so much as have a fingerprint on it, it shows.

It's my cousin's shop. It's on his parent's property, his dad died and now his mom lives there next to the shop. He moved up to the same town that I'm in...

sorry about that, I guess I'm not too good at answering people lol
Probably $1,000 for that. (guess) If you don't like my price then send me a PM with your budget and we can always work with people.
