Hey guys, been surfing arund a while since I bought my car this past March....... 1987 Accord LXi Automatic, fuel injected, ~100,000 miles.

The transmission has always shifted hard into 2nd, and slipped a bit going into 3rd. Other than that, the car has been flawless....

Problem: 2nd gear went out, it just slips through it now and goes to 3rd. SO, I ordered a transmission that was imported from Japan. The only difference is that it has 2 electrical solenoids on top (shift solenoids?).

Does anyone know what they are for, the guy from the place I got it from says just leave them unhooked, it doesn't need them. I figure if they are for the lockup T/C or whatever, it DOES need them. I drive about 150 miles a day, and if the converter doesn't lock-up, the trans won't last long!!

Sorry for the long post.......Mike

i am not sure what they are for, but they may be for overdrive. it is very popular in Japan to have overdrive with 1 or 2 settings.
check this manual, may be you can find something:

NO! don't listen to him (the mechanic)
those soleniods are there for a reason.
shephard could be right the two setting's.
but these soleniods do control the shift.
lets us know what happens
