My friend an I are having an argument. he says that all cars that have vtec have to say it. But I don't think that's true. Or is it?

Lol, I have an image of walking by a car in a parking lot and hearing it say "I have vtec!" in a high squeaky voice.

no silly, i mean that the cars that have vtec "say" it on the valvecover. is that necessarily true?

No it is not. Some Civics had vtec and it didn't say it on the engine. The only way to tell was some number written on the engine, or the type of engine. I forgot how my friend found out about his 93 Civic, but the Honda dealer told him it was vtec, they just never said it on the engine.

Yea they usually do. I can not think of one that does not. Unless they have an aftermarket valvecover.

I don't think so, but I could be wrong. I'm no expert.

If it has a vtec solonoid. Its a small thingy at the side of the head with some wires coming out of it.

BTW VTEC is overrated.

Not a good pic, I can not see it. That is a 97 Civic Ex though.

This article points it out.

yeah i think that is a D16Y8. The intake manifold and the head are the things that make it different from a D16Y7 (non Vtec). D16Y7 has the TB that points directly up, not to the pass. side of the vehicle like this one.

VTEC is very overrated, especially on SOHC Civics and Accords.

I've driven my dad's 98' Accord LX, I don't like it at all. Its faster than my car but it doesnt feel any faster. I feel as if I have much more control when driving my 88'.

the newer cars with vtec or somesort of variation say it on the engine.. like on the newer preludes .. the newer celicas .. its there.. but on the older cars with vtec. . you just have to know your engines and all that sh*t .. but yea ..

My friends 96 accord feels much slower then mine and he has the "vtec" he loves so much. I just let him feel fast by not passing him with my 3g.
