How do I wire in tweeters

I just bought a pair of tweeters off of ebay and I'm wondering how I wire them and what do I need. Do I just tap into the door 6.5 speakers? I know how to get the panal off now just need wiring help thank you guys alot.

do your tweets have a crossover seperate? or built in?
do you have an amp? or are you running of a head unit?

well it depends on your setup....

Most folks -----> dont have a parametric eq or crossover then u will need to put a bass blocker on the between the tweeter and you radio or amp (to make sure no low freq go to the tweeters).

Advanced folks ----> have a parametric eq (eq that seperates then frequncies sends it to your amps it usually will have 2 rca inputs then 2 front out and 2 rears outs and a subwooofer out) or crossover. System that I had hooked up in my old car consisted of the Kenwood eq , 4X20 Blaupunkt amp and a 4 x 200 pyramid .


The front door speakers are hooked up to the actual deck.(had an issue and had to unhook my amps one day and it sucked to be music less with a 2 hour ride home ..so after that I always leave 2 speakers hooked up to the radio and use bass blockers.)

Front channel of the eq goes to the 4x20 amp which ran the ..4 tweeters. Rear channel on the eq went to the front of the 4x200 amp (turned gain down)which ran rear deck speakers. Use the subwoofer out to go to the rear channel on the 4x200 amp amd ran them bridged ..I dont remember what speakers had because I have had so many different kinds .... remember running 1 - 10 in bandpass box ..have had 2 -15s rockford fosgate ...2 pioneer 10s ..2 pyramid 12s .... hope thie helps





The difference is that the eq sites right behind your radio and it send the signal to your amps and and its give a few more options then a crossover gives (never used a cross over so this is from the way i understand it). Cross over sits behind your amp and seperates the freqencies then sends it directly to your speakers.

tweeters can be added to any set of speakers but you need a filter to block the lower freq. from going to them.

you need one of the following
1. a capacitor wired in series to the tweeter, probably a 4.7uf would work good with those, they should be bi-polar caps with a power raiting of at least 50v if you are powering them with the head unit.

2. a pair of 2-way crossovers that divides lows to the woofer and highs to the tweeter, you can get them online (ebay, radio shack, etc) or from an old house speaker

3. get a dedicated tweeter amp that has built in crossovers or an active crossover before it.

i bought a pair of tweets from radio shack that had a crossover on them already and i just hooked them up to the door speakers. they sounded killer. not a bad investment at 14 bucks for the pair.
