View Full Version : Why do tires squeel around corners?

I just wanted to know the science behind why tires squeel when u take a corner fast. I've noticed my car doing that a lot lately. I've always taken corners fast, and i'm sure my tires have always squeelled a little, but i just haven't noticed it until now and its seems that it happens on almost every corner. My two front tires are pretty new, and the rear tires are nearly bald. Could that have anything to do w/ it? Just curious.

It could, when tires squeal more than usual your tires are going bald. Your tires squeal when you start to exceed the maximum grip that the tires can take on a corner.

Wider tires and a better suspension setup helps cornering immensely. Also lightening the weight of the car, or having a lighter car.

check your tire pressure

Check your alignment.

Check your speed limit signs, if your tires are breaking loose you're probably going somewhat fast, in which case, more power to you.

If your tires seem to be spinning around corner more ther are either going bald or your taking corners faster. If there going bald they're squealing because they don't have enough tread to grip the road and there slipping. If it's because your cornering faster the body of the car rolls and will put less pressure on one tire or the other. The tire with less weight on it has more lift and will grip the road less and spin.

They squeal because you have crappy itres, Get some Nitto's. I hear they are good.

traction man, weight shifts to the other side leaving the one that squeels with less traction.

good sh*t. My front tires are pretty new, and i'm pretty sure thats where its squeeling from. I don't think anything is techinally wrong w/ my tires, i'm just taking corners fast. So i guess thats it; my tires squeel b/c the weight is shifted to the outside, leaving the inside tire to loose grip. I''ve never lost control though, it seems that i always have control. But i'll go slower, especially w/ winter coming up. thanks guys.

ok, if you drive fast on alot of corners, your tires tend to wear more on the outside. you could try adjusting the air pressure in them (make shure its in the recomended range and towards the high end if you plan on doing more fast driving). and, remember since our cars both drive and steer w/ the front wheels, they wear out about 2 times faster then the rear so you may need to rotate them to get better life.

Actually bald tires grip the best in dry conditions. Whenever I drive trucks with alot of tread on the tires it feels like I am sliding around turns. But then again bald tires which are old and dry rotted slide more then anything else b/c they dont grip at all.

Why do tires squeel around corners? Well why do we get burns on our ass when we fall down a flight of steps? Friction my friend. :D

I think it's important to know when your tires will squeal - for emergency situations, of course . . . ;)

. . . just the other day I was practicing with my mother's Roadmaster . . . coming back from the post office - you know, just making sure I'd be ready for any emergency situation . . . folks were grabbing their children off the street . . . the postman dropped some mail . . . trees even started swaying and there was no breeze . . . anyone ever see the movie "Bullet" . . . dang that was fun . . . parked it and fresh smell of rubber was very prevelant . . . :super:

. . . I love abusing cars I hate . . .

. . . and you can quote me on that one . . . ;)

Ahaha, I thought you were slippery enough that it wouldn't matter, remember kids, to avoid ass burns, don't slide down the stairs all nekkid and whatnot like our friend bloodlust here.

Check the air pressure in all the tires. The correct tire pressure is on a tag on the driver’s door or in your owner’s manual. If the air pressure is correct, have the wheel alignment checked.

Ah hell, let's just beat this dead horse a bit harder, who's got a baseball bat?
Check your tire pressure
Slow the hell down
Get new tires
Learn to corner, 3geez are not drift machines

Lets beat this topic with a ten foot pole.

Hey Coitis1, What type of tires do you have, you only said that they were "pretty new".

At least I am not trying to whore up this thread by posting a useless pic of a stupid cat. If you read the second line you would notice I asked him what type of tires he has. Witch is a completly valid question pertinent to the original point of this thread.

your tires squel becasue they slide around corners happens to everyone but its a loss of traction

Your saying I was whoring. No I was trying to be nice and give both you guys a hint to make a better effort to stay on topic in your replies. But I think you knew that or am I being senseless again :(

I get the impression that your 3 day vacation isn't having the effect on you guys that it was intended to cause when the owner of this board impossed it on you both.
