a few suspension questions

ok, im getting springs, a camber kit and shocks in the next week. i was set on eibach springs (either sportlines or prokits(189$ apiece)) but neuspeed(159$) and intrax(219$) also carry springs for the 3g. i was wondering if anybody had any expeience with these different brands and could give me any advice. as for the shocks, i want koni reds, but i was not able to find ones that fit for the 3g. can anybody tell me otherwise? i hope so, because i have heard of people putting konis on their 3g. by the way, i got all prices from modacar.com, good site, generally pretty cheap

Koni reds for the front are still available in VERY small quantities from Tirerack.com They run about $107 each. If you can't get koni's the next best bet is bilseins and sending them to get revalved. How much of a drop and how firm of a ride you want is the best way to judge what to get. The neuspeeds or H&R's are going to be the softest. Check out Jim's threads in the beginning to the sectionfor spring rates to help you decide

reds are 107 each? thats a shitload. i thougt yellows were that much. i dont think i would spend quite that much, especially if i can only get fronts. and i dont want to screw around with sending bilstiens to parts unknown either. and koni reds are not available for front and rear from anywhere for the 3g? because that would suck cuz thats what i had my heart set on

I have Eibach Sportlines, and I love them, and I have tokicos all the way round. Rides like a beauty for being lowered.

Well $107 isn't too bad. I got them on all fours. Probably get the H&R's everyone seems to like them and on either the Sportline or the Prokit the rears are way too soft and with people in your car it will really sag and prob rub.

i think my final decision is the tokico (package strut deal on modacar.com) and neupeed lowering springs (the green ones also on modacar) since the tokicos are only slightly stiffer than stock, i figured i should go with softer springs. can anybody tell me if this would be a good setup? im stupid with suspension stuff most of the time. thanks guys!

I think you'd be better off with a stronger damper, at least for the front, but if $107 each for Konis is too much for you there's not much else to say. The Tokicos will probably be ok for the rear (I've heard), but stiffer rear damping would reduce understeer even more than just increasing the rear spring stiffness more than the front. I guess it comes down to why you're lowering your car. How are you trying to change how the car handles?

i want it to handle better, a little stiffer shocks, and a little stiffer springs. my plan originally was to go with koni reds all aound an eibach sportlines or prokits. but now that i have heard that they dont sell the konis anymore. i dont want to spend all that money to send those bilstiens all over the place, too much hassle, so i figured if the tokicos werent that much stiffer than stock, i could go with spings that sont be much stiffer either, thus the tokicos and neuspeed springs. i figured that would be the best bet. i sitll have another week or so before i will have the money, so im trying ot figure it out

I had Intrax springs on my old car. they were great. they are stiff enought to give you sporty drive but they are soft enought to keep your ride comfy.
about the struts, you don't have choice here. Tokicos are the only struts you can get beside buying Bilsten and revalving them.

I didnt read much of the tread but sounds like he wants some afforable and rides nice. i would side sportline i had them, and get the KYB GR-2s. nice ride. My friend has that on his 4g and it rides nice. and he has sportline. I used to have that but the previous over heated the front ones up. wast of money. oh will. just wanted to share.

money isnt a huge factor. id just have to wait another 2weeks for another paycheck. if i could buy konis reds for both front and rear, there would be no question that i would, i was just a little surprised by the price. i guess what i am looking for is something comparable to koni reds and some nice springs, something stiffer than stock, but i dont want to feel every pebble in the road. i heard today that KYBs are not bad. another reason why i was looking at the tokicos is because it is a full package, easier that way. i hope that can clear up what im looking for a little better, because i am not so good with suspension stuff. on a side note, has anyone seen the suspension techniques sway bar kit for 3gs? go to their website, i was thinking about picking up a set of them too. anways, thanks guys!

I'm surprised Jim hasn't seen this thread. To confirm everything, Koni's are gone. I got shafted on rears because they were out so I went with the Bilsteins. I'm getting them revalved also. This costs more than just getting the Koni's. I don't have any experience with ride on any springs because my car is still stock height right now. All I know is that if your struts aren't stiff enough to handle the springs, you're ride will be bouncy. Some of these guys have figured out what works and what doesn't. Keep researching and see what setup sounds best to you.

Well good choice on the springs. The Eibach rear springs are way too soft. I would plan on having people in the back cause it would sag so much.
