Ok i see a little leakage on my vavle cover. so i bought a Fel Pro gasket and i wounder if anyone had problems taking the 3 bolts off. I mean breaking them. My friend has a 94 accord he told me have fun taking them off hondas are known to break the bolts off. but i dont really think so. Thanks. Let me know

I've changed a few valve cover gaskets and never had a problem with the 3 nuts. They should only be torqued to 7 ft. lbs.

Ok today i looked on a Michell 1 Program thats 8gs. lol. yeah i laughted when i heard that from him. but my teacher said he tells u everthing. its like a teacher. will anyway. i looked up the touque specs for the vavle cover. it said
Vavle Cover Nut 84 in. pounds. and Mac said 7 Foot pounds. I think 7 pounds is a little to much. So that sound right to u guys.

Is 84 inch pounds the same as 7 foot pounds?

make sure you clean the head very good. if there is any oil between the gasket and the head, it will leak even more.
wipe the oil, and use somekind cleaner to clean very good.

and dont use sealer!!! unless other wise specified. but MOST head gaskets..all if im correct....dont require sealant...as for bolts breaking i have never heard that story as long as ive been on this board. NEVER not once. your friend is a drug addict. get him help.

also when you are wiping off the old oil look for any spots that may have cracks/rust/damage that would prevent the gasket from working. use some sort of high heat epoxy to repair it or go j/y hopping for a new valve cover.

Since he was talking abou the valve cover gasket, use a gasket scraper and then the chemical gasket removal to ensure a clean mating area, then replace and torque to the specified tightness.

I noticed the manual I was reading saiid to use sealant in two spots. Does anyone use sealant or is this a bad idea?

I don't use sealants at all. Pauls manual doesn't show to put sealant anywhere on it in the breakdown. I don't have the 88 manual from Justin yet but I assume it's probably the same

Which spots? Was this the Honda Manual? I use a little sealant in the groove on the valve cover to hold the gasket in place. I don't use any sealant on the mating surface though. I clean the area much like Zero said, then torque it on. Easy Peasy!
