portable car heater

I need to get a new heater core apparently. It's gonna cost me over 300 including labor to get this done. The mechanic told me that they have portable car heaters. Does anyone know about these? do they work well?

I think my car lighter doesn't work so are there any heaters that run by battery?

Look at the JC Whitney website, they carry them as a seasonal item and they generally have real good prices. I dont have any experience with the heaters, sorry. If you have some basic tools you could do it yourself though after a thorough study of the honda manual instructions.

When the thing finally gts hot, the car is already warm.... useless thing...
