i want to lift my accord (go ahead yell at me) i was working on my car today trying to find the source of a leak. when all of the sudden it hit me my car looked neat up on the jack like that. i was wondering if anyone has ever attempted this or if it is even possible. i have seen a few other cars that have been lifted and i figure it to be rather unique and something that would be fun to try.
any ideas

yeah, i think its been done. A long time ago, someone had posted about an offroad project of theirs. They lifted a 3g and put some big tires on it and was doing some mud swampin or something. It might be hard to find, but u can search for it.

lol i am from texas and raising trucks is so common and u see that bullshit everywhere. but i rarely see a car raised i saw 2 cars lifted in my 19 years living here. one was an old eagle 4 wheel drive car not all wheel drive it was like a trucks 4wd and it was as high as a damn truck wit supper swampers on it. the other car i saw was an el camino lifted and the engine sounded so fucking loud lol but it was cool cuz we dont see that kind of thing that often. i was actuall thinkin of buying a talon tsi awd or a gsx and lifting it and doing some engine work so i could beat those honkys trucks in mudding lmfao

first off the camero is a GM snafoo. The GM corperation is either lazy or smart. Either there too lazy to design a new platform or they know that by using the same platform they can just adapt new ideas to that platform and make parts and such cheaper. Im a ford guy sI dont know. The camero was most likely an older 80-mid 90s style Id guess and yes with minor mods they are a direct boltup to the k5 chassis. I see alot of older cars on 4x4 chassis. At first it was cool but now its kinda old.
Secod if you like the look I would go cheap to see if you like it. No matter what its going to ruin something about the car (driving comfort, stability, ride quality). Anyway rather than do something permament just go to a local parts store and get these things called coil spreaders or something to the affect. Ive seen them in 2 styles. The first is like a nut you twist in between the coil and its larger than the original gap forcing the coils apart making the coil higher and thus the car higher. The second is a bunch of bolts and washers and nuts with some pieces of u-angle with a round noth in them. You put it together and put in into the coil. You can then seperate the u-angle by adjusting the nuts and washers forcing the coils apart, or lower for that matter. I would they a bunch of either of these first. If you dont like it just take it off anf your back to your old car. No welding cutting and only 15 minutes tops. I have some of both sets but I think I only paid like 5 bucks for each. Let me know if it works. Sorry for the long post

Get a damn truck if you want to sit higher.
I say go for it though. It would definatly be a unique 3g. Good luck lifting a fwd unibody.

I was looking on ebay last week and someone had put an 88 rx7 onto an old jeep frame with 34inch tires and all that stuff. It was different, I'll give the guy that. The sad thing is the moron used a Turbo2 for the donor car.
If you wanna lift it I say go for it. It's like my dad always says to me when I want to do something different to my car " It's your car, do what you want."

well thank you for all your replys i do like mykwikcoupe's idea about the coil spreaders looks like i will be going to the junkyard and gettin some stock springs. cause i gave away my old ones when i put in the eibach kit. i dont know why but i think this is going to be freaking cool.. ;)

if you raise it too high you'll have to worry about your axles not engaging correctly into the hub. the best thing would be to fit the body of a 3g onto a little pickup (like toyota) frame and go that route. there are a few rides like that in my area. somebody put an older dodge caravan body onto an s10 frame and lifted it. it was pretty tight!

there is a 3g here where i live. I know him. But not that well. ill go by his house and take some pics of it. my friend next to me says he might of moved but ill check tommorow about it.

I have seen an El camino lifted and 4x4 ready. With coil over springs it is a little harder to lift compared to a truck with leaf springs. You would need taller springs to start with or find a way to schimmy the stock springs higher.

i was wondering how i would go about lengthening my struts? would i have to im assumeing that if i get taller springs or use expanders i would have to make my struts longer in order to compensate other wise i wouldjust have a really stiff spring ride.. should i do something like extentions for the strut bolts or should i be looking for longer off road type struts..
Justin86
11-17-2003, 08:42 PM
Well you you wante to raise it like 2" you probably could do so on stock struts, higher then that you might want to look into different struts. I know that the 92-00 Civics are taller.

our car's sit ,hi i think it's low. too low cause i bottomed my exhuast once.
plus i thought the lower the car the more aerodynamic it is.

how about you trade me springs? my springs are 2inched raised.
HaccordR89

it doesn't get more aerodynamic by lowering it, but lowering the center of gravity helps a ton with turning radius and hi speed cornering. as far as drag racing goes it also reduces "hop" off the line, which will improve your et, and also give you better traction to your front wheels.

you can get new springs rewound. i think it's pretty expensive though.
keep the stock rate and just get them made longer. if civic shocks are longer, throw them on and you're set.
i think it's a pretty cool idea. like a WRC car set up for gravel/mud

My first car was an '85 accord. I heated the springs, and put it up on jacks, lifting it like 2.5 inches, I did this because the guy who bought said he only would if I could pull this off, and I fuckin' showed him!!!!!

That looks like an 84 hatch. Looks like it's in good condition too! I think that year looks cooler than the 85. The 85 look like it was trying too hard to become like a newer car, but the 84 was just doin' it's thang... :)

lol! The top of the trunk lid looked like a rear window of a hatch! :P, I'm retarded! lol. There is a slight chrome strip above either the 84, or 83 accord front end. It gives it a more classic look. lol, but I am prolly mistaken about that too! :P

Tell me about it! I had NO sense of car style back then. My only goal was RICE RICE RICE! My first 'mod' was a blue LED shift nob, lol. I had blue seat covers (maroon car lol), a super street banner in the windshield, super street belt pads, super street floor mats, and I carpeted the back window shelf and trunk with short floor carpet (which was blue, lol).
DON'T WORRY! My style has gotten better as you saw with the example of my subtle old '88 that got totaled. I don't know what I was thinking with that car! :P I am SO glad I got out of that desperate ricer phase.

I saw a guy with a lifted Camaro and Corvette, both probly 6-8" lifts and like 30" slicks(or at least somewhere around there) they were hella sweet...another guy had a lifted corvette at the drags and entered the truck category, it was lifted quite a bit and killed the trucks

if i had one just to play with, i would do it, but i would do it proper... order custom springs from hyperco, and fit some off-road oriented shocks to the car, maybe have my axle shafts replaced with longer ones if it poses a problem, and get me an LSD for my transmission so i don't get stuck as easily... then i'd go out and rally that mother... around here, there's all sorts of backroads and dirt roads, and even trails through the woods... finding a place where this would be an asset is easy... would be cool, too... i would put the widest 14 inch rims i can find, and of course the tallest sidewall i can find for that rim to help out in the traction department... damn, that would be so fuckin cool
Vanilla Sky
01-01-2004, 01:08 AM
you know, come to think about it, why not get coilovers and just replace the springs with longer ones? long enough to raise the car up, but still short enough to bring the car back to stock height?

that eagle is cool, but i'm talking using the accord frame and drivetrain... adding a frame under it would make it too heavy for it's own good

Damn. Thats some good photoshop work.
That eagle has one major advantage making it easy to lift. A full Frame. I think a lifted accord chassis would flex too much to be useful off road. Hell get a wrecked CRV and have at it. Might as well swap over the motor for some extra torque. Hmm a CRVTEC 4x4 3G, now that would be a sight.
