ive been looking fer an amp to get .. and most the amps that my dad gives me makes my subs pulse in and out when i turn up the amp .. i know my subs can handle alot of power .. and most of these amps are less then 250x2 .. so yea .. why does my subs pulse? ... should i get a NAME brand amp with higher watt rating? ? what amp would you recommend for a 800-1000 watt range? and what are good prices fer these amps?

I would recommend either a Kenwood Amp or a Phoenix Gold. They are on the expensive side, but they have true power ratings unlike alot of other companies.

Im not to big of a fan of Audiobahn but they are ok I guess. I miss my pair of JL 12W6s. Stupid thieves.

Good choice Bloodlust. I personally like PPi and Orion amps.

A PPI PCX-1500 would work nice, but its gonna run you close to $600.

Has anyone tried out JL Audio amps yet?

The good stuff will cost you my good man.
My JL subs were $250 a piece. The sub amp was $550. Then the MB Quart components were another $300, and then $250 for an amp for those. Then $400 for a deck. Plus wiring was about $300. The sub box was $200. The custom door boxes were $300. Then another few hundred in labor.
So all in all I had a $3000 stereo. Damn I miss it. That is when I was 16 and stupid. I wish I would have spent that on a new motor to go faster. Maybe I would still have good hearing, then again I would probably be dead from speeding too much. It was all in good fun though. This was all crammed into a Dodge Ram 50 extended cab so the subs were right behind the seats. It was freakin loud.

Wanna hear something funny? I am using my car for an example;

The formula for Watts is defined as Amps x Volts

Every one of our cars has a Volt rating of 12

I have a 15 Amp fuse, so I am using no more than 15 Amps

According to the formula, I can have no more than (12) x (15) Watts.

12 x 15 = 180

So you cannot draw more than 180 Watts out of my car at any given time. Except, my amp is rated at 400 Watts. Where does that extra 220 Watts come from? A great mystery of car audio.

But when the car is running, it should be at 14.4 volts. Not that it would make that much of a difference...

wanna fuq it up some more?

No amp runs at 100% efficiency. If it did that would mean 100 watts in, 100 watts out, no heat. Now we all know heat is wasted energy so say you have a high-efficiency amp, Class D, 80%.
15amps x 12v = 180 * 80% = 144 watts.

I dunno why your amp only has a 15 amp fuse but that right there is 1 sign you have a cheap amp. Many manufacturers on lower end models advertise their products' MAX power, not RMS. My guess is your amp is 200 watts RMS and that's where the 15 amp fuse works.... Still, kind of skimpy.... Is that the factory recommended fuse rating?

No, I know that my amp is not the best, but even a single pulse of 200 (1/2 the max) should blow the fuse right away. And the fuse on the wire from the battery may be bigger, but if you look at the fuse on the amp itself, they are rarely the same rating as the one on the power wire.

I used to have those speakers. the aw1000's three of them bad boys.

but i ran 650 watts from a punch 500a2 to one of them and it didnt blow.

MAKE SURE YOU GET SOME NICE POWER OR THOSE THINGS WONT EVEN MOVE!
For quality at a nice price look at autotek and hifonics

Hifonics, they bump for the price, I remember those years ago. Also check out the red Volfenhag speakers, the prices on them have really dropped, I bought some a while back and these things are nasty big but the box they require isn't really for a 3rd gen.
I put 1 of the 15's in a 2 cubic foot box (100+lbs) and the whole thing was sliding across the floor

Definitely check out some 2 channel audiobahn amps they kick ass! I love the quality of an audiobahn. I have a complete audiobahn speaker set 2 sets of components and a sub and you should use an audiobahn amp because they are built to push their own subs
