What is your launch rpm?

I am not talking about racing, just daily stop and go city driving. I have an OEM clutch with 30k on it. I usually start out at at a little below 2 grand, approx 1850 rpm.

About the same. ~2000 RPMs.

Between 1500 and 2000.

What the hell is launch rpm?

k-roy
11-24-2003, 03:12 PM
The rpm at witch you start to release the cluch from a dead stop.

87accordlxi
11-24-2003, 03:14 PM
probably around 1500.

MrBen
11-24-2003, 03:16 PM
I go around 1,000.

2000?!?!? Not the greatest for the clutch....but anyways

From a dead stop I let it out at 1000, maybe 1100 at most. If I'm rolling even just a tiny bit though I go right from 800 idle, nice and smooth :)

shepherd79
11-24-2003, 03:44 PM
about 1200rpm.

MrBen
11-24-2003, 03:45 PM
Yeah, letting your clutch out at 2 grand isn't exactly fabulous for your clutch. WUUMMM! *burn*

k-roy
11-24-2003, 03:47 PM
I release it a bit below 2k. Like I said 1850. I don't really care about burning the clutch, it is expendible.

MrBen
11-24-2003, 03:48 PM
I'd rather mine go for over 300,000 miles like Jared's did, thank you. It's this thing I like called not abusing you car. :)

My clutch is new and it holds a dump at 2G... itll also hold a dump at over 5k+... plus i dont care what happens to that clutch, but the tires spin like crazy every time i dump the clutch, even from like 2 k

1500 -2k.. depending on my mood. I shift @ 8k.

k-roy

I dont abuse my car, just the clutch a little bit. I really don't care if it burns up. I'll just go get a better one like I should have in the begining. I am probably nicer to my car that the average member around here. I do all routine and perventitive maintaince. I also drive swiftly but conservitively.

lol, a launch RPM when not racing. I don't have one. The car idles, I let out the clutch and give it gas, so I guess wherever it idles.

get ready to start walking everywhere pretty soon then. I blew up my first motor from hitting 7k a few times a day for three weeks. That motor was hosed.

I do it alot and no problems yet. I can try to take pic of it tonight as I drive home.

i let my civic top out alot ...... it has 250 k on it and its fine .... i hit the rev limiter pretty much everyday.... not sure how many rpms that is ( its a dx... no tach) ... as for just starting off normally..... its probally around 1000-1100

Shit guys, 2k? I can (and do) get a fine start without even having to "rev" it. My typical launch RPM is idle speed. It's a little harder, sure, but with any skill it is completely do-able.

Where is ur idle at? I love to see u do that in my car.. Stall city

MrBen

I do it all the time. If you're good with the clutch it is easy. Reving up your car like that is no good. Contrary, apply no gas is no good either.

I think my method as well as Jared's are "proven" to be the best. He got over 300,000 miles to his clutch with his clutch habits.

now that i read this, i realize i haven't been the nicest to my clutch.....................
I've been letin go bout 2 -2250 but I'ma lower it down a little.
when i do though it chatters a lot ,, I hate that noise.
may be from me needing to adjust the valves.

I go from idle. If your exhaust is all good you should have no problem starting from idle. There is not need to rev the car up to get it to move. ! bad for your clutch, 2 bad for your axles.

same with me..., if i had to guess, i'd prolly say between 1000-1500rpm's. i normally shift about 3500-4000rpms, also depends on who i'm driving with.

Well it is not a launch it is a release. When you launch you just drop the clutch. For me I release the clutch at 1200.

yeah, i was taught you gotta (cuz used the term) "flutter" the gas, just jump it like 300 over idle to go. i've been doing that a whole lot now to save my 155k clutch (both myself and my little bro have learned to drive in this car) from compleatly dieing (i've adjusted it to the full extent, its on it way out).

I drive weekly and i'll slip it at 2500-3000 and slip fast then floor it. Whatever doesnt break traction. :D

12-09-2003, 03:33 PM
i know before i said 1000-1500, but i think it might be closer to 1500-2000, with the occasional 1000-1500..., yah... it was wierd, i was tryin to make myself look to see what rpm i release at..., but next thing i new i was already going and i hadn't even looked

I have a clutch masters clutch stage 3 i think been a long time. I launch at 2-3K anymore than that it's for a show. I love this clutch I can launch at any rpm and she turns the tires into a little piles of rubber lol

is it just me that feels that breaking traction is a bad thing to do. Im not mario but I feel that when driving there is a feel to keep rpms low until the clutch is fully engaged. I launch about 1000-1100. I think that jigga, you may be realeasing your clutch too fast and that is why it makes that sound. Although when you first start to engage its a little high reved but as you load the engine it slows and by the time you are fully engaged you are probably around 700-1000. Just my assesment.

Now if your out to make a spectacle of yourself and burn off a few hundred in tires(maybe look like a tool in the process) go on and chirp the tires for a quick second. Unfortuanatly these cars dont have the power to make a real scene unless your very hard on them or your using 175mm rubber.

for better takeoffs some wheelspin is a good thing. the motor isn't bogged down so when the wheels finally get traction the motor is in the powerband

Warning slightly off topic.....

Some of you have posted takeoff speeds of 800 rpm.. ..what is the stock idle rpm supose to be? My tach reads about 1k at idle with the clutch engaged.

I'm not good with EFI, can I lower the idle rpm manually like a carb or is it in the computer? I would search but there are problems with the search part of the site now, I would go outside and look now but its 9:45 pm on a dark street.

oh so hes in sleeper mode when posting also. I see. If you kept the foot on the gas how long could you keep them screaming before the rubber heated enough to catch up with the engine

I'm not saying that I don't give it gas, but I only give it enough to hold 1k while I start out.

that's easy even with my on-off clutch. Thought you guys were talking about a LAUNCH not just getting the car to move.
Just try backing up a uphill driveway with your right foot on the clutch and your other foot hanging out the door. LOL

When I did drive standard, I started out at around 1500.
