when i am at a red light or stop sign...my idle drops sometimes down to almost nothing and if i dont touch the gas, it will shut off. It only does this sometimes though, could it be that it is 40 degrees outside or is something else wrong. thx for any help you could give me.

replace your 2 fuel filters and air filter.
clean out the carb with carb cleaner
check for vacuum leaks
if you have no e-checks rip out those vacuum lines http://www.3geez.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11067

re-tune the carb http://www.3geez.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=117

also check the timing, cap and rotor, spark plugs and wires.

could it be that it is just cold outside? or do you think it is one of those things? It just started the other day....and only happens at night when it is cold outside, it wont do it during the day

Depends on what you call cold. Mine idled fine last winter in Ohio when it was 0 degrees. It sounds like you need a basic tuneup. Its always good to do preventitive maintaince.
