It just takes a minute to check. Pop the hood, reach down by the battery where the release arm is on the front of the tranny and see is the clutch cable is taught.

did you look at the pedal? if the cable still attached to the pedal, than the cable is snaped.
the other thing you can try is to pull the clutch lever. if it moves freely, something wrong with pressure plate.

It sounds like your release bearing spring broke which is bad news. This happened to myself and i know a few others which sucks. To see if it is i would take the cable off the arm on the transmission and they see if the arm springs back by itself. If it gets stuck down then that is your problem.

the pedal comes back up no problem, their is just no tension like no pressure when u put it to the floor, like ur not pulling on anything.

the cable change is SUPER easy, it took me like 5 minutes to do. First you turn the adjuster on the tranny lever, all the way counterclockwise I beive until the end of the cable drops out of the tranny shift arm. Then you disconnect it from all the brackets under the hood. You have to lie on your back to get under the dash to see where the cable attatched to the clutch pedal. I threw my old cable away or I'd take a pic of the pedal end. when you pick up a new cable and look under the dash it'lls be pretty clear. You just slide the cable and lift it up from where it attaches to the pedal. Then its opposite of removal to install and the just adjust it out at the shift arm

Try and do that on a Prelude!

There is no way to get that cable off the top of the pedal...no room....

tell them get fucked, I just paid 30.48 for mine from Majestic Honda. Heres a pic of the cable from their site, its item #1 http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/catimgs/13SE00_J20.gif.
Now thats the one for my car, an 88LX-i but go to their website
Majestic Honda (http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/home.htm) and click the Honda parts store icon and enter in all your year and body style and all that good stuff. If you don't want to order it online call autozone, advance auto or who ever you have in town and get it from them. Its easy to install. You can see on the pic how the pedal end of the cable attatches, the tranny ens is simple, like I said earlier. You might just need help adjusting it afterwards but theres info on that on here as well Hell with that trannie shop

LOL I can't forget, I never knew, theres no location for you or vehicle info or anything. So they want 107 bucks US to do it. Thats still steep. Are you sure its broken???? HAve someone look under the hood at the shift arm while you press in the cable and see if the shift arm moves.

ok if i go right above the transmission i can twist the cable and its really really loose so its gotta be the cable, i know its not suppose 2 be like that, i might be able to get the cable for 80......so im gunna have a look at installing it the trouble is the pedal, their isnt much room to get my hands up there is their like a pin i have to take out or sumthing????

if its broken, it will fall right out... its prolly just way out of adjustment.. adjust all the slack b4 you waste cash on a cable

Travis

jayp6969
12-03-2003, 03:44 PM
how do u adjust the slack???? the whole cable twists around

dXsquared
12-03-2003, 03:54 PM
there is a knobbie thing... twist it till it makes the cable tight... its right on teh arm on the tranny

you dont get it REDONE.. you get a new clutch kit... they are like 150 bucks at canadian tire.. find a garage and get it done.. should cost you 300 canadian at most, plus the cost of the clutch

i belive DYNAPAK is what CTC carries for Accords... and it will have to be ordered, unless they have it in stock

jayp6969

Hi there, I have been browsing this forum for some time now and have been hesitant to sign up. But I haev had a Simaler experience. Driving through town one time My clutch cable broke. I had to turn the car off put it in first (this is with my 88LX) and start it while in 1st gear, then shift into each gear without the clutch. i went to an 89dx parts car I had and took the cable off of it but just thought id share my experience.

naww its not the cable cause i can lift the lever and their is no tension so its something inside like a plate or bearing i know that 4 sure

ChaseR

its not a platee, its got to be that throwout bearing then. Becuase if the clutch was slipping youd know it...
