Well I got most of the boring stuff out of the way like changing my timing belt and taking care of my brakes. Now I want to go step by step on bolting on some fun stuff.
How should I proceed? I was thinking of doing the following in this order:
-Upgrade ignition
-Upgrade Exhaust
-Lower the car
-Upgrade my Carb (if there's anything street legal to upgrade to)
-Port and Grind whatever if it's not too expensive and keeps the car smog legal.
I already have my KnN drop in filter. But I need to clean it and put it back in :D . What's up with this 'flipping lid' idea. I haven't looked at it yet, but what am I expecting out of that?
For the first step, I want to upgrade my ignition. I'm considering the following:
MSD Coil (which model should I get?)
Fatter Plug Wires (Which brand?)
Replace my Cap and rotor (cuz it's been a while)
BTW, I have a 89 Carbed DX HB just in case that's not clear.
Anyone know a decent speed shop in San Fernando Valley, CA?
Any help would be great!
:super:

U can go for a webber carb and a few people on this board have and love em. U can also do a FI swap if ur interested in that. Ignition u can get a Accel Ignition coil which is not as good as an MSD but its definetly worth the 30 bucks it costs. As for exhaust get a custom catback done with 2.25 piping and mandrel bends

You can get the MSD blaster 2 coil, I have one and it is good, and it cost about the same as the accel coil some of the people on this forum have.
Wires: The best i know to get are nkg's. Don't be fooled as I was by thinking that the fatter the wires are the more power it will give you. All those 9mm wires give is better insulation. Nkg are like 8mm and are great and durable and don't cost half as much other as other supposedly "performance" wires.
And if you are going to upgrade your wires and coil, definitely change cap and rotor.

I hate these speed shops. They never have anything in stock and you have to order everything.
I'm gonna have to but a magazine and buy some stuff through mail order. I can't even find a good looking website to buy from. Any suggestions?
I went to a Pep Boys just for the hell of it. They had one Accel coil and some wires. They couldn't even sell me a cap and rotor. They told me I either had a 'Hitachi' or a 'Tek?' distributor and I had to find out.
So I'll pick a magazine today and go to some speed stores this weekend. I intend to upgrade my iginition in the next 48 hours!

hmm, I could find out which distributor you have by looking at a pic of your cap... or if I could find a pic I could show you what the Tec or hitatchi looks like just so you'll know.

THANKS for the offer. I think I'll just remove the cap and rotor and bring it to store to buy the right piece. I bought my Sports Compact Car Magazine, so now I have list of vendors and parts. I'm still trying to find my MSD coil and plug wires. You would think it would be easy. Anyone know of a heavy stocked speed shop in Los Angeles?
I put up some pic of my car:

Funny how things don't always go as planned. I've been looking for an MSD coil but I end up with lowering springs.
I got a set of new Intrax springs off of EBay. I'm gonna pick it up later today to save on shipping. It's a 45 minute drive but what the hell.
I'm still debating about getting KYB or Koni struts. The KYBs cost much less but the Konis are designed for lowered cars. I'm hoping to get a discount through some of my connections.
The store I'm picking up the springs sell MSD but they're gonna show me a catalogue meaning they probably don't stock the item. I may just get my entire ignition setup from KRAGEN.COM since I can order online then pick it up locally.
You may be wondering why I don't use my 'connections' for all my purchases. I've discovered that if you don't abuse your 'connections' they keep in the long run. So I try to get discounts on high priced items versus a $30-40 coil. You know?
