My AC works fine. Not as cold as some newer cars but cold enough to keep me cool in 90 degree weather.. The only problem is that I can hear like a faint scratchy sound coming from the far right vent when AC is on but when AC is off it goes away.. Does any body have any idea what that is?

Peace...

My AC is great at night, but during the day for instance, today in NYC it felt like 101, they AC wasn't doing crap but tonight on my way home I had to keep it on lo because it was cool. My question is should I recharge the AC or should I get tints?

My 92' civic VX doesn't come with AC, the car has nothing extra because it is ment for high performance, how often do you see VX's?? The weight is only 680kg. So thats why I don't have one!

Actually after i finally got it converted to the cheap stuff and got it fied it works ok. But on like a 90+ degree day it needs like 5 minutes to get working well. Also as a side note when ever the A/C it on expecially my car will start to shake. If im in gear like R od D4 or whichever and i come to a stop sign the entire cars starts to shake. I think its because the RPM's drop to low (I have a LX and the wonderfull little car doesnt seem to have enough power to sustain itself, this is anoying since i was accustomed to the fast-as-hell LX-i i had just before i got this one), they go a little under 800 i think. It's kind of if the car wants to die on me and then again it doesnt. What is this and how do i fix it. Also does the fact that my car has over 215k on it matter?:D My car has always done this and i would like to see it stop. Oh, and for some funny reason it wont do it in P, but as i said it will in alsomt any other gear.:werd:

My makes noise and I know that the fan blows but as far as trying to get cold, it takes forever. As far as the heat, I freeze before I start to feel a difference and thaw out. I'm going to fix that problem in August though, heh, heh, heh.

I have owned 3 3G LXi's, and none of them have had A/C that has worked. I think that the A/C on 3G Accords was the car's weak spot, my dad's '89 buick with 255K has its original working A/C, you would think that the honda unit would be superior, i guess not....

Reptile
08-01-2002, 04:59 AM
Maybe that and their tranny. The tranny doesn't even have a filter on it. Also my mechanic said that our cars A/C units dont have compressors, maybe thay came out before that technology did. I mean really our cars were desinged in 1985, my birthday is in 1982. Look at what they are coming out with now, everything is much more sufisticated than it was back then. Theres probably a whole lot of little things, and also some big ones, that have been improved upon. You must remember this is a car that was desinged back when Saftey Dance was a new song. They exsisted before Vanilla Ice, M C Hammer, or even the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. These things are old. However that is one of the strongest proofs of Honda's mechanical superiority, these car have that much age under there belt and they can still give the newest cars on the road a run for their money. If im ever rich one of these days im going to take one of these cars and have it retro-fitted with newer technology. I have never, and i repeat never, seen a Honda on the side of the road dead. That includes even the 1st and 2nd Gen let alone the 3rd Gen or up. I have not seen very many cars that have the miles on them that either of my 2 Accords have had. And the very few that have gotten close are obliously on their last leg. I'm not saying that high mileage American or European cars dont exist, but they are rare. For Hondas however high mileage seems to be expected, 150k-250k seems to be the norm and 300k or up is very posable. I admit i dont know a great deal about the reliability of European cars but the American cars suck in a lot of ways. After 100k on an American car you can expect to have to get rid of it. 200k if your just damn lucky and its been pampered. I've only heard of 2 or maybe 3 American cars that have reached or broken the 300k mark, i've never seen one. There is very little to hate about a car that you can expect to be able to drive anywhere you want to go, for almost any distance you want to go, for ever day you have it and it will still be running like it was when you first purchased it. These cars in many ways could become family heirlooms.:lol

My car sat in the "parts car lot" of my mechanic for 2 years. He and his crew used to turn it on and sit in it while they were out during hot days because it was the only car in the yard with working A/C. Suckers ran all the freon out! So by the time I get the car there's nothing left. I took the A/C out to make room for other stuff. They had robbed the car of SO many parts in 2 yrs. The rear bumper is from another gen accord - freaking thing just hangs onto my car loosely. I get tired of hearing "your bumpers falling off, man." Eventually, I'll put a 3rd gen bumper on, but first comes installing my DCOEs, then headers, exhaust, cam, lowering springs, blah blah blah. "Hey, that car's fast and it sounds great, but the driver is sweating like hell and the bumper just fell off." LOL

Mine was like that but I have like 6 cans of r12 left over from when they stopped selling it to the general public, and found a r12 recharge kit at schucks this last year and now it works great.

It just seems weird that they would still carry the recharge kit and not be able to sell the refrigerant itself.

im keepin mine, but it dont work right now. i am going to get it fixed, but not now. im not spending my money there. maybe after then engine, interior, and the outside are done. its not too important to me. although i always wish it works in the summer. i do live in south texas if that makes u simpathetic to me. i will get someone to fix it for cheap so maybe it can be working by the summer.

Mine doesn't work right now, probably because only about 1/2 the system is in there, and the compressor is frozen :lol . BUT, I will have it fixed before summer rolls around. I've got all the parts I need to fix it, just need to get a couple of days free to put it all in and fill 'er up. I don't care how slow my car will be, I'll be happy not to have to sweat my ass off another summer (never had working A/C in any car before) :D

I hear the Kehin compressors are the better compressors (vs Nippondenso) It matters where you live where the ac lasts the longest. I live in NY and after 6-8 years in any car the ac tends to die. Its usually due to the condensor in the front leaking (somtimes from freezing weather) and going bad. Oh well, i got beats so i always run with the windows down (dont need ac) and I need another alternator (need dual alts to keep up with the amps) so bye bye ac. It worked last year tho. I swear the 3g accord ac was the coldest shit, any 134 a system cant touch em.

Jareds 89 LX-i
12-27-2002, 09:25 PM
Believe it or not, the opposite is actually true. The Keihin compressors were the crappy ones, just like the el-crapo Keihin carbs. Nippondenso is the better one, and is also the only one compatable with R-134a :)

AccordEpicenter
12-28-2002, 10:06 PM
yeah the Kehins have higher internal pressures and blow up with 134a... i already knew that, i was thinking about converting

njpeter
12-29-2002, 05:17 AM
only the nd's can take 134..and it works pretty well too..having the compressor at the lower points of the system really helps. You want to check on compressor oil for the convert..I used "poly alpha" in one car and PAG in the other..I've been told PAG is bad, but not in my case..still cooling well after two years..I did change the dryer..and I'm sure that helped lots.

I actually dont know, since it hasnt been warm enough here since I bought my car in December, I cant tell if the air from the vents is cold a/c air or just cold vent air since its cold either way!

*edit: It was actually around 70 the other day and just to test it I put the a/c on full blast and it pumped out cold air,:super:, not super cold but cold, but thats all I ask, my dad says he has a can of r12 at where he works so maybe that could help it out.

Thanks with the help of Jared we got my black car ready for the summer. I dont know jack when it comes to repairing my A/C. The thermometer read 32 inside the air-vents. Now he's telling me to put anoth have a can of r134a in it. Any colder and the windows are going to fog up. But now, the humid summer in Florida is no match with my A/C!
Thanks again Jared for help! Another half a can will probably bring the pressure right on spec.

134a expands more then 12 does..you should only charge it to 75-80% of r12, I think 32 at the vents is most acceptable.
