I keep a small green military toolbag that I picked up at a Surplus store. It has 3/8 deep and shallow craftsman socket sets in a plastic container, a full set of MAC tools 1/4 metric sockets, a 1/4 ratchet. 3/8 ratchet, a flexhead 3/8 ratchet. A full set of craftsman metric wrenches in a pouch, a 3 piece set of vise grips in a pouch, a snapon scredriver set that has interchangeable bits including torques, A ratcheting standard length and stubby screwdriver, needlenose and duckbill pliers, and a few other things. I also keep jumper cables, a maglight, and a 4 way lug wrench. All tucked neatly in with the spare tire

I try to be prepared. I have a full toolbox in the trunk and one of those roadside saftey kits (cables, flashlight, syphon, etc). My toolbox has a set of metric sockets (9mm-24mm) w/ u-joint and 3-6 inch extensions. I also carry a metric combination wrench set (8mm-17mm) along with a 4-pc screwdriver set, 4-pc pliers set, rubber mallet and various other specialty tools. I also have a handful of different sensors I got from the pick-a-part, mainly coolant temp. and tempterature sensor (seem to have a problem with those going out). I try to keep brake, P.S., tranny fluid, oil and coolant in the trunk (all except coolant leak a bit), along with a can of PB Blaster and a roll of blue shop towels. Yeah, it's overkill but it's saved me more than once.

Yuppie. :lol
I rely on no one. Plus cell phone do not always have service.

I carry a 10 and 12 mm wrenches and a cheap socket with a 10 and a 12. A few screwdrivers, vise grip, spare alternator belt (the only belt on the car:D), vacuum plugs and a few small hoses, jack, lugwrench and jumper cables too. I have probably jump started 100 ppl over the years, just because I am a nice guy.
How the hell did I forget to mention duct tape? Thats the most important item by far.

i never carry jumper cables, i use to think it could damage your ECU when you jump voltage betwen cars. Are they safe in EFI cars ?

Yes they are safe in EFI cars, as long as they are used correctly you shouldn't have anything to worry about. When in doubt check your owners manual

Yes they are safe if you know how tp use them correctly.
I almost forgot to mention the spare bottle of oil, flashlight and old cell phone. Old cells can still be used for emergency calls. Never know when that could come in handy.

Just curious...don't any of you have 24 hour road side assistance? I'm fortunate that my parents have decided to make that call for me. I still carry the essentials though, I do like to fix things on my car by myself. Right now, my trunk contains the following: factory spare, factory jack, 4 way crow bar, tool kit including duct tape, flashlight, WD-40, screwdriver (both philips and flathead), jumpercables, tire ooze for flats, tire repair kit, cloth, pliers, mini compressor, and a first aid kit. BTW, that whole thing only ways 2-3 lbs, it is very nice. And then other than that, I carry window cleaners, a wheel lock, and an umbrella. With all that, I think that I'm definately ready for the road.
