Ok I have a problem.

For the last little while or so, the car will start up fine but when I put it into Drive the car will cut off and die.

I can usually start it up again and let it idle for a little bit and the second time sometimes it goes ok.
The other option is to hit the gas as soon as i put it into drive and it will usally go just fine. (obviously not the best take off).

It doesnt really matter how long I let it warm up, it can still happen.
Additionally, once it even cut off right after I started it up, but that has only been one time.
I have no other problems with the car (that i know of) and once it gets going, no problems, it hasnt stalled at a light or in traffic, etc.

Any advice/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Change your fuel filters... you might have a vacuum leak at a thermovalve...

When you do get it to go,make sure trans does downshift into 1st before you shut down. Maybe the trans is stuck in 3rd gear.

hmm...then should I put it in a lower gear first then up to D?

Well I dont think its tranny related as it died again immediately after starting it up.

Guess I will change the fuel filters this weekend.
Any other suggestions/ideas?

Great.
Tonight the car went dead at blockbuster.

Wouldnt turn over/start at all. Just clicking.
I just replaced the battery 2 months ago so i am guessing the alternator is bad...? :(

Do a hillbillie test of alternater/

Get engine running

Take off a battery connection

If engine dies.........

You need a alternater

Its been the backyard/shadetree mechanic test for many years and still works.

Just becarefull don't wear ties or loose clothing when preforming this test.

Well I would think it's a vacuum leak and a starter or alternator problem. It might be as simple as a bad ground wire or a really corroded ground wire.

You could also damage the regulator doing this test if its a good alternator

well we jumped the car and drove it home.

after I got it back home tried to start it back up and it was dead as a doornail.

guess that would indicate the battery was dead (duh) but probably b/c of the alternator being bad since the battery is so new, right?
