....Just changed the sending unit in the tank yesterday...took a whole 15 minutes !!!
I wish everything else was so easy to fix !!!

did you have to drop the fuel tank?

nope:D
and you don't have to do the same for the fuel pump either.
i wonder why most domestic's did think of this in '86.

How'd you do it, go through the rear seats?

Fold down the rear seat and pull back the trunk carpet. You will see two round covers. You can pry them off with a flathead screwdriver. The drivers side is the fuel pump and the passenger side is the fuel level sender. You can remove either one with a 10mm socket with an extension. There is 8 bolts or so holding the assemblies to the top of the tank. Remove them and the wiring harness. On the pump you need to remove the rubber fuel lines as well. Then you can remove the fuel level sender or the pump. BEFORE YOU DO THIS DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. One spark from the harness and you can die. Just be careful and be sure to have a hand on a piece of metal to ground yourself. Its pretty easy, it takes 5 minutes.
