As far as the accords go I know its recommended for the 3rd gens and I'm pretty sure they used regular motor oil up until 94-96 in that time frame they changed the way the gears were cut and switched to honda MTF which is basically oil with an additive to quiet the gear noise.

according to my Honda shop manual you should use:
5 speed tranny: 10w-30; 10w-40 or 20w-40(in the summer)
auto tranny: dextron automatic transmission fluid.

I've used 80W Bel Ray Motorcycle Tranny oil. Bikes have separate gear boxes just like our manual trannys. Makes for slicker shifting I find.

Your going to have to use oil, I think i ended up with 10w 30 Exxon brand. You have to check on the back of the bottles for a certain type, there are two in particular that I'll have to look up in the chilton. I'm not giong to post what they are until im sure about it.

I use Pennzoile 10W-30 with a bottle of that Lucas stuff. I did that when I had the 3G Accord and I also did that when I first got my Integra.

I have no idea what the newer accords use the trannys. Call up the dealer and ask them, they would defanitely know.

They shuold tell you what exact type you need at an Autozone, just ask them. Out of the entire selection the Exxon brand was the only one that met the requirements.

riiiiiiiiiiight half the people at autozone are lucky they can identify a car 3 out of 4 times with help. Most all of them only know what shows up on the screen which is whatever info some computer nerd puts in. Now the geek can tell you how an internal combustion engine works but couldn't put oil in the damn thing.
Yeah autozone, the people who list 2 sets of calipers, 1 set of pads, and 1 rotor for a full size susburban, problem is one caliper isn't wide enough eith the pads on it to fit over the rotorbut they SWEAR thats the right part.
Yeah ok I trust them as much as I trust people on the board to tell me what wrong with one of my airplanes

Autozone people probably don't even know their head from their ass, let alone my head from my ass, thus not knowing an accord's tranny lubricant.

Whenever I go, I watch the screen and pretty much have them click it for me. Don't usually have any problems though. anyways heres what Chilton says "All manual transaxles use engine oil, not gear oil, as a lubricant. The oil should meet SG oil standards (preferred), however SF, is acceptable. ....use 10w-30 or 10w40 oil."
"All Honda automatics use Dexron II Automatic Transmission/Transaxle Fluid (ATF) or its superceding fluid type." They should both be changed every 30,000 miles or two years.

This shoud clear any confusion. Hope it helps. I had to refill mine the other day, they should really come out with a funnel specifically for our purposes.
