your fast idle valve is dead. go to honda dealer and order a new one. they are $78 with some cents.

does it idle like that all the time or just when you start it up???????? There is a checkout in the shop manual for the fast idle. Might wanna download the manual and read up on it

fast idle doesn't have any connection to the ECU. it is pure depended on temp of the coolant.
if the valve is cloged up it will start to stick. i just replaced one on my accord.
the honda manual says do not adjust, but you can try adjusting it. just screw the big screw untill RPM stop going up and down and the engine runs smoth. it helped me untill i got a new valve.

where exactly is the fast idle valve on the engine?

find the throttle body, now the fast idle valve is between the throttle body and stock plastic air intake. if you look closer it will have two coolant lines on the bottom of it.

is it like a black plastic piece?

Vinny

its circled in red in the pic I posted. Its not plastic its grey metal. On the back side of the throttle body. It has a roundish cap with a screw holding it on. It sets vertically and has 2 coolant lines going into it towards the bottom. Its held on with 3 or 4 10mm bolts. I wouldn't suggest taking it off unless you have new o-rings for it. Coolant runs through it and if you pull it and don't change the O rings you may develop a leak

Maybe this will help you out a little more. Its part number 08. List for 50 bucks and some change fromMajestic Honda (http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/catimgs/13SE00_D07.gif) the O rings are 11 and they are like 1.20 each

thanks that did help alot i think the o rings are gone in it

the O rings shouldn't cause it to idle like that though. Its temp controlled so make sure you have the coolant level up to par and bled right. Also check out the thread I posted earlier it has a mini how to on it for temp fixing it.

i kind of had that problem only it would fast idle just fine and then idle surge and then idle normal, it was just low on coolant though, added that and fixed the prob, wish this thread was there when the prob started, vinny could have helped me out a ton, took me a 2 days to realize i was low on coolant

ok so the fast idle high to low high to low- is due to this piece, and the high idle is also due to this peice? because mine fast idles until warm then it high idles all of the time like 1.5k -so i guess it fast idles high , but ok fixing this peice will fix all probs?

like i said...it can idle surge also because of low coolant, and it could be a bad map sensor from what i've heard
