Just wanted to show some people who were thinking about doing the b16 intake manifold swap.... http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid96/pb733f5340dd0cab55e86e6cf20fa7e25/fa1f57a3.jpg http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid96/pd6cfd3508f51516665f8d1f90ba2c54c/fa1f57b9.jpg http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid96/pdfe59798dffeb253dd540c1d2fc3c0e7/fa1f57bd.jpg http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid96/pf12852d6dd1fcac60a3531823ed10f28/fa1f57a5.jpg :cool2:

Yeah, converted the car to a manual as well...... Yo Sean, those O2 sensors you put in are still going strong.... http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid96/p22364d3065a25a22a301a37a632a8eda/fa1f57d9.jpg http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid96/p729ccbb116bfc295ca115d6ee22650f6/fa1f57c5.jpg

ANNNND how is the performance gain?

i have one just sitting around. im wondering if its worth my time to put it on the car though

reemeber when i told you that $70 for a pair of good heated o2 sensors was a good investment. se see see. lol. i put those in like 4 yrs ago didnt i. !! WOW could be closer to five almost time to change them out. bosch 12375 jic you wondering

LOL...... Yeah, I remember I was like "70 dollars for some O2 sensors, Damn!!!".... But look at them now, still going strong and I bought a back-up pair not too long ago but have not had to use them because these haven't failed yet..... As far as performance for the mani, I haven't taken the car out of the garage yet because I'm still tuning the engine but I will tell you this, the engine sounds strong as hell!!! I've been taken care of all the little things that go into the manual tranny swap like making sure that the key comes out of the ignition and hooking the reverse lights up.... But as soon as it hits the streets, should be this weekend, I'll let you know how it feels... :cool2:

please give me the full report. i have the manifold just sitting on my shelf awaiting the mods if it will work. but im tempted to just buy an aftermarket b series manifold and make it fit, just so i get better power, but if this works WELL, then maybe i dont need to.

holy crap. i have been waiting for this pictures. I expect how to very soon from Joker2, right?

That is what I would rather do, having straight runners and then getting a bigger TB with it. It is all going on my spare engine.

I am assuming you did the work yourself to make it fit?
How difficult is the custom work?

joker2
01-01-2004, 03:05 PM
Yeah, all the work was done by me in my garage..... As for tools, make sure you have some type of Dremel, a drill with some nice torque and some nice drill bits that can cut into stainless steel.... I know the mani. is aluminum but if you get bits that cut into steel it will cut your work time down a lot... Don't worry bobafett, I got you covered on this..... I remember when you were really interested in this mod also but time was a killa for you..... It's no problem to do a write up on this so as soon as I take her out this weekend I can get started on that.... But I will tell you this, it is time consuming..... Most of your time will come from making sure that the nuts have enough clearance so you can tighten the mani. down....

great, i think this how to would be great addition to our forum.

I'm interested in the process that went into drilling the holes. I would probably put some graphite on the 4 bolt holes on the head that the intake doesn't have, match the intake up to it, take the intake off, and use the graphite marks to tell me where to drill. I have no idea how to get it ridiculously accurate though. How did any of you do it? The drilling will be fast for us at the shop but I'm trying to figure out, like I said, how to make the holes line up.

Justin86
01-01-2004, 08:04 PM
You use a A20 intake gasket and it will help you to know where to drill the holes and port match the manifold.

d'oh (why on earth didn't I think of that? haha)

yea it is pretty simplie, but very esay to over look.

joker2
01-02-2004, 11:12 AM
Yeah, I just used the A20 gasket and laid it on the manifold to mark my new holes.... Basically you'll end up cutting the original top holes off so the mani. can lay flush against the head.... Justin (TurboAccord) has a nice pic of what I'm talking about when he fit a STR mani. to his engine..... That's my next project also... :cool2:

Hmmmm I see that this disabled the EGR valve (there is none)

Might be problematic for smog tests.... I'm sure there is a way to weld the EGR part of the A20A manifold on the B16A manifold

im assuming there is some re-wireing involved for the plugs on harness?? Im gonna have to do this to my 'spare' motor.

If anyone is interested in doing this, I have a B16 manifold I'm willing to sell/trade. I'll throw in an A20 manifold gasket too.

NXRacer
01-02-2004, 12:27 PM
i'll trade you a stock a20 intake for it....... :D

shepherd79
01-02-2004, 01:04 PM
i don't understand how did you disable the EGR valve? don't you get a code?

joker2
01-02-2004, 01:16 PM
That's what I thought would happen once I disabled it but so far so good, no code..... Now I'm not saying that once I get it on the open road the ECU won't notice that it's not there but I've been reving the engine a lot and she hasn't thrown one..... Carot, you probably could weld one on to this manifold but there isn't that much room to play with..... Actually K-MOD gave me the reassurance of not running the EGR because he's been running his engines without them for a while now and he said it doesn't effect his performance in anyway......

Justin86

it is a little better not having the EGR but to get rid of the code you need to hack the ECU. The is the only way I can figure to get around it so far.

carotman
01-03-2004, 12:44 PM
You will get a code on the highway if you don't plug the EGR valve. (EGR lift sensor)Just plug the valve and hide it somewhere.

joker2
01-04-2004, 06:57 AM
That's what I was thinking also, that's why I still have a connection for the valve...... Now if it throws a code then I'll hook it up and see what it does from there....

a integra type R manifold looks like it will fit. It is only 10 bucks on ebay for now

Sorry, the misses put the lock down on me this weekend and I wasn't able to take her out..... Besides, once I do I won't be able to get on it too hard because I have a break in period for this new clutch that I also installed (ACT stage II)..... So hopefully I'll take her out tonight.....

IT'S ALIVE AND RUNNING STRONG!!! :)

How long before you can really get on it?
For now did you lose any low end that you can tell?

bobafett
01-06-2004, 04:08 PM
i just want to know which TB you used. if i can use the a20 TB then i will just go to a junkyard and get one. otherwise i will need to find a b16tb... and if i can use the a20 i will bore it out hehehe ;)

is it worth the time and effort, thats all i need to know

joker2
01-07-2004, 05:40 AM
Well, I think the break in period for these clutches is like 500 miles but I could be wrong.... As for the TB, you can't use the A20, you have to use the b16 or something compatable to that.... Luckily when I got my mani. everything was still on it.... Plus, the b16 TB's bore is larger than the A20 anyway.... I can tell you this, it's worth it!!! Actually, it's pulling really nice through the power band but like I said, I really haven't gotten on it like I want to and I can already feel a power increase..... I would have already done the write up on this but I've been waiting for something bad to happen because this is too good to be true but so far so good..... :cool2:

bobafett
01-07-2004, 12:02 PM
excellent. i guess its time to either find a cheap b series aftermarket manifold depeding on price, and a little TB as well! :)

i think i have all the tools to do this project... so its just a matter of sticktoitivness and elbow grease! hehe

joker2
01-07-2004, 12:35 PM
Yeah, basically that's what it's going to come down to..... If you have any questions after I do the write up just let me know.....
