I have noticed that alot of people have painted the inside/outside part of their tailights black in the yellow part of the tailight. Personally i think this looks badass, but how'd you do it? What paint did u use? Give me the scoop haha. But also isnt this illegal because there is no turn signal bulb showing? Thanks

The product is VHT Nightshades...not exactly sure how to get it. Maybe Wal-Mart?? And no, I don't think it's illegal. The blinker will show through...the paint's translucent.

i have everything painted black that is a lens by now, the pics dont show the corners black, but they are now... :)
i used 2 cans of VHT nightshades for most of it, and a 3rd can to do the corners. (plus i hit the tails again. :)
costs about $8.00 per can at GI JOES...

when u paint them the most important thing is to be even. and TRY to keep a consistant distance when spraying, and try to remember how many coats you are on, so u can match the look to the other peices, this is important on tails and corners, since it determines how much light will be let through the paint.

also i used krylon crystal clear on everything, when i did the tails and front lenses it didnt turn out glossy, but more matte, and when i did the corners they turned out glossy... i cant figure out why, but im sure it has something to do with temperature and dust etc... so try to stay consistant, i actually FORGOT to do my corners, or else they would all look the same.. i kinda like the flatter look, so i may get some satin clear to dull up the corners...

I used VHT Night Shades on mine. It can be found at most Automotive Performance shops through special order. $11.00 CAD a can in most stores. **NOTE: Make sure you WET SAND the lenses first!**
Here's a pic of my set up.

Deathrat, that looks awesome. That's the erebuni kit, right?

So, do the lights still show up red at night? Do you use brighter bulbs?

Thnx!
Yup that's an Erebuni kit. I'm in the process of modifying it to make it look better. (Changing all four pieces) :beat:
The lights look great at night, still using the "stock" bulbs too. No problems at all except for the "Reverse Lights" & the "Tinted Windows" that is! LOL
I've even "Night-Shaded" the license plate lamps too, so as not to make a "gleaming" white licence plate at night. :cool2:

Do you paint the VHT Nightshades from the inside or the outside? Is there even any way to paint it from the inside? I need some intructions/tips or somethin cuz im goin out this weekend to get a couple cans

Yes you paint the outside.
The way I did it was by removing the lights. They are held in by 4 8 or 10mm bolts.
Then I removed the center section of the trunk and removed the inner lights.
I cleaned the outside of the lenses with rubbing alcohol and let it dry.
Then I did a few layers, 5 minutes between layers alternating the direction of the strokes.
I let them dry overnite in the bathroom with the fan on. In the morning I slapped them back on.

So theres no way to do it from the inside so that i dont have to like put a clear coat n stuff on it to not look rough?

I was thinking about doing that, but i thought it would make them so dark that you wouldnt see any light... nice to know that it obiously doesnt :cool2:

well, the corners, when the blinkers are on during the day, is kinda hard to see them, but thats cuz i did like 3-4 coats, but the orange in the tails, there is no lights behind them, they are just reflectors.
