about how long will a new head gasket last?

It could last 5 minutes, 5 years or even longer. It all depends on if it is installed correctly or not.
Get a genuine Honda one.
The main reason for head gasket failure is overheating. Change your coolant religiously, be sure to bleed it too, check the howto. Also change yout oil religously. If you have high miles and are looking at replacing the head gasket you might want to consider changine the timing belt and water pump at the same time. I like to cover all the bases, it is easier to do all three at once than to do them one at a time.

Oh, no I got a new head gasket, water pump, timing belt at about 108,000 miles and now Im at 118,000 and its still running good. I had a friend do it for me about half the price compared to a regular shop. So guess the work is pretty solid then. :D
