Well, I see alot of people asking where to get that part and that part and another part from local USDM cars when rebuilding their B20A.

I will try to do a list of most of the parts available in the US for your B20A engine.

Here are the parts and the USDM engine/car it corresponds

Spark plug wires (1) ---- B20A5 ---- (Prelude 2.0si 88-91) *use with B20A5 distributor*
Spark plug wires (2) ---- B18A1 ---- (Acura Integra 90-93) *should be fine with the JDM Accord/86-87 Integra distributor*
Starter assy ------------ A20AX ---- (Accord 86-89) *With auto transmission*
Throw out Bearing ------- B18A1 ---- (Acura Integra 90-93 non vtec)
Valves ------------------ B20A5 ---- (Prelude 2.0si 88-91)
Valve Cover gasket set -- B20A5 ---- (Prelude 2.0si 88-91)

The water pipe o-ring for the B20A is the same as the A20 o-ring.

D16(s20) speed sensor will fit the b20a and the a20a trans. so if you want to run an electric speedo it will work.
let me rephrase...

the speed sensor out of the b20a auto trans fits and works in the d16(s20) trans...so...it should be the same vice-versa.

I noticed the rear main seal interchanges with the B20A5. Does anyone know about the front main, or the rear main seal retainer gasket?

i thought the b20a and b20a5 were pretty much the same apart from having different bolt up patterns on the head bellhousing and engine mounts

They share crankshafts, so I imagine that the crank seals would interchange. Not sure about the retainer gasket though.

yeah, the main seals are the same. I changed mine with a B20A5 seal.

Was the rear main retainer gasket the same though?

I'm starting to believe that the rear main retainer block doesn't actually have a gasket, it's just sealed with black RTV, in which case, yes, it interchanges quite fine.

The oil pump housing is different.

1st gen B20A (86-89 Accord and 86-87 Prelude):
Parts list: http://www.hondaworld.ru/honda_spare/details_car_4249_spare_E__1301_category_1/
http://www.hondaworld.ru/images/spare1/17SE801/E__1301.gif

2nd gen B20A (Prelude 88-91):
Parts List:http://www.hondaworld.ru/honda_spare/details_car_20719_spare_E__1300_category_1/

However, all the internal parts can be cross referenced from other Honda engines.

This means that if you can' get a "new pump" you can always rebuild it if the housing is in good condition

does anyone know if the head off the b20a out of the 2g prelude will fit on a b20a5 block

They share crankshafts, so I imagine that the crank seals would interchange. Not sure about the retainer gasket though.

I just put a jdmB20a in my 89 prelude and from what I can tell everything was comparable except for the clutch.

The b20a and b20a5 are exactly alike except for the came and clutch. The C/R is slightly higher also

What about the a20 and b20a alternators? I know i have a b20a one. Anyone know if they are the same?

I don't know if it bolts 100% directly, but I was able to make my ES alternator bolt on to the B20A. I think I swapped the adjuster bracket, or ground the bracket slightly or something like that. The mount on the engine is the same though. I mean it was super super easy.

Ok cool. I think I remember them being the same. I found the part nuumber U.S. alternator but couldn't find the part# for the B20A alternator. Hopefully Carotman will check in soon to confirm. Thanks for the info

Hmm yeah I can't remember if I swapped my crank pulley, or if I swapped the alternator pulley...

The housing is different. They might be able to fit with pulley/bracket modifications.

If you have a bad alternator, you can get it rebuilt with local parts and keep your current housing.

Looks like the oil pan gasket is specific to the B20A only. I tried a B20A5 one and one from the A20A3 and neither work. They were both too big
