Do you buy an amp wiring kit for the rms rating of the amp or for the max rating? My amp is b.400.4: 300 rms, 1200 max. Thanks guys.

it NEVER hurts to have heavier wire than you really need... that way you can upgrade and not have to use different wiring

because most people put the amp in the trunk, there running at least 15 feet of cable. by using 4 gauge cable you will get the power to the trunk without loosing the power because of the long space between the battery and the amp. this only works if your amp requires 4 gauge or smaller if you have a huge competition amp then use 0 gauge. by using larger cable then you need you can always get a distribution block and use 8 gauge or whatever once you get to the trunk.

i hope this isnt too confusing for everyone but that is just my opinion i use 4 gauge to the trunk the have a distribution block in the trunk to distribute it to each of my rockford 500 amps powering 2 12" infinity kappa perfects in a custom fiberglass box

hope i helped out

Yeah Buy it for the Max Power you can get. That way you have room for your amp to stretch when it needs power to hit.
