Your going to have to pull the transmission off the engine and out of the car... I can even think of a way you could replace a gear with the transmission still inside the car.... sorry dude

just drop the tranny and fix it. simple simple simple. I actually would pull the whole motor along with it so i could clean it etc.

I say screw 5th and let it be. its not like you get any performance in that gear anyways.

Yes, it can be done. I replaced my fifth gear set and shift fork in an hour or two. It took far less time than it would have to drop the tranny and then do the same job. You'll need a 5mm punch, a torque wrench, a 30 mm socket, and regular other tools.

Screw fifth my ass.

I use it all the time. It's called being a college student and wanting the best fuel economy you can possibly get.

The fifth gear gearset is positioned behind a metal cover on the side of the transmission. To service fifth gear while in the car you have to remove the cover and then replace whatever you need to replace.

what about putting an integra or prelude 5th gear ???? ... if works, what can i get of doing that????

You'll get alightly better acceleration in 5th gear and use more fuel on the highway if you used the higher ratios from the other cars. I'd keep the Accord 5th. If you need to accelerate just downshift.

u wanna replace it w/o taking the tranny out of the car? I think i know how that could be done, take the rest of the engine out, then you'll have plenty of space to work on it while its in the car, lol.

Someone already said how, read above a few posts

Do it on the car,it is on the top part of the tran. under the black cover. The main shaft with the shift fork has a left hand tread. So to loosen you must go rigth

How about the reverse gear, seeing that they sit in the same area do you think that gear could be fixed the same way???

Only 5th gear is under that cover. To access reverse you'd have to remove the 5th gear assembly and then take the case apart. While this may be possible there are so many parts that you would need to line up to reasseble it (or that could fall out while you're working) that it would be easier to pull the transmission to avoid the hours or days spent trying to put it back together under the car.
