HostileJava,

I bought an aftermarket T-shaped auto shift knob. It was cool.....until I had to install it.

The new knob used allen screws, while the one on my car used regular phillips screws.

If your old knob doesn't use allen, then you'll have to do some modding. Just something to keep in mind before you blow cash.

Yeah definitely the first one. Would it work for our cars tho? Says 90-92 Eclipse there. I might just get myself one.

WHen I first joined last summer, I saw someone who had a knob exactly like the stock one... but it was Carbon Fiber, I thought it looked cool... I'll see if I can find that again.

Yeah it will work for our cars, it's a universal shifter.

I did have one in there that was about the same size as stock and all cf but it was fake CF and it's starting to come apart.

Ah well, there you have it I guess... too bad tho, I thought the CF knob you had looked pretty good then.

i dunno, my favorite aftermarket shift knobs come from 2 companies. i love the levoc ones, but they are very expensive. my personal favorite, which i had on my cavalier was the Razo quickshift a/t knob. about 50 bucks, but very nice quality.

i have one similar to #3 but it is longer but and the carbon fiber is protected by a slip of plastic so nothing can harm it...its nice...i like mine a lot, but it was a pain to find the allens for it cuz they were in metric not standard and it took my dad and i quite awhile to find one in a bunch of the lil drawers at the hardware store...it fits great now though...very worth it. i don't know where i got mine but i've had it for 6 months now. just do a search for it and u'll find it

That's the fake piece o crap I had. Not like the other ones are real, but maybe they'll last longer.

Get the second one...
When I installed mine a ways back, I kept the button pressed in slightly and then held it there while I forced the inner shaft all the way down. Then I tightened the shift knob to the shaft.

This way you don't have to press the button all the way down to unlock the shifter.
Oh and add some kind of locking compund to the screws that secure the shift knob. Or plug up the holes with metal putty so the screws can't back out after tightened.

oh and one more thing... break off that plastic wheel on the inner shaft... some of the shift knobs have very little room on the inside and that plastic wheel bit gets caught up constantly.

Could that be the reason why mines is stiff to shift sometimes???

i had that carbon fiber t-shaped one too and i didnt like it. now i have the 2nd one listed and i did the same thing a20a1 did but i only set it low enough so it will go into 2nd if i have it in d3(since i dont have a 5 speed, gotta shift it manualy :) )...i didnt set it low enought to move through all gears because im not chancing hitting my shifter and throwin it into reverse

A20A1

well it still should be high enough to catch the shifter before it goes into reverse... a lot of those top buton shift knobs don't have a lot of travel in them so i was just suggesting taking up the slack and going a bit further to make it easier to shift.

I was going to get the dremel and reshape the grooves from 2nd to D4 so that the pin rolls over them both ways.

i like the one ravenix shows....but its cheaper on ebay ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33703&item=2451547024 ). other than that i think the 1st one is preety sick.

i wanna new shift knob. mine is old and kinda faded. it would always need silicone spray or armorall. dont know what to go with but i dont want any fake cf because that wil eventually rub off.
