ok, ive found out that my gas light doesnt work! i let it go just about empty and it still didnt come on. good thing i had extra gas here at my house to make it to the station. anyway, im guessing this thing hasnt worked for some time. i know my other lights work! my oil light was blinking the other day when i took a corner too damn fast. it was ok though. anyone got this problem? i dont know much about the dash because ive never worked on it yet.

My gas gauge works fine.
I have only seen the gas light once. I usually keep at least 1/4 tank just in case.

mine's work, it's the low fuel sensor.

My gas gauge is all fucked up from when I tried to put gauge faces on and the light doesn't work either. I ran the car out of gas once cause it never came on. It was a whore and a half to start after that.

I had one on an 86 Prelude that stopped working. It was the low fuel sensor

I see my light about once every 3 weeks. I see how many miles I can get on the machine before the light comes on, and that's how I know whether I did good or bad for mileage.

mine hasent worked in years!

rather than wait till your just about out of gas. Why dont you fill it up like normal. drive till its about 1/16th tank left and go filler up again. Take the total milage driven and divide that by the total gallons taken to fill up again. Thats what i do. My gauge works perfect. never seen it turn from yellow to red. Never wanted to push this car either.

Yep mine works, and it doesn't really fade either, it's really bright orange and stays lit until I have refilled the car.
I've always been told by mechanics to never let the car run on or close to empty, but I don't know why it is bad. Any reason?

I let my gauge go right to dead empty and the light never came on yet and the car never ran out i don't wanna push it any more so i'm not really sure,BTW the poll should have another piece added for those of us who don't know.

some fuel pumps are cooled by the liquid gasoline, or so i've been told. I would also assume its not good for the pump to not be sucking up liquid.

also the only left at the bottom of the tank is the sludge and crap from 14 years of gas. The lower the tank level gets the better the chance of sucking this crap into your pump and filter.

BMS

That and also any water in the tank will get sucked up also. Water is not combustible, ya know.

My light is the only way I know when I really need to get gas. I messed up my gas guage when I installed those faces.

no idea...depends on how big the tanks in our cars are...i thought it was 11 because thats when my guage hit empty...

mine works just fine turns on about a 1/8 of a tank.. I try not to take it down that far tho :banghead: the one time it didn't come on I ran out half a mile from the gas station

Mine works perfectly fine, as does the gauge. It'll come on real dim at first, then go out for a little bit, then come back on and get brighter and brighter. I rarely see it though cuz I never like to run my car that low on gas.... I usually always fill up at 1/4 tank. Never even once ran out of gas ;)

BTW, you're not supposed to run your tank to empty cuz the fuel pump is lubricated by the fuel going through it. When you get on empty, as was mentioned you get all the water and crap that starts getting sucked up.... not good!!

mine does the same crap dont you know one day i was walking my happy ass to the gas station in the snow because that light "used" to work but no more and the oil light yeah i get that too when i go doing left handed e brake slides when all the oil sloshes to the right side of the car opposite the pickup

Yeah mine works. Mine is like a burnt orange color. Its come on quite a few times for me. :D

Hard to say. I rarely let the tank go much below 1/2 as the time it is convenient for me to buy gas each week puts me right about at that level. The light worked many years ago when I used to take long highway trips. I could go from Corpus Christi to Dallas (450 miles) on one tank of gas with the light coming on just as I got into Dallas. It would slowly fade from dim to bright as the fuel level got lower, as some others here have indicated.

I have purposely let the tank get pretty low a couple of times since to check it. I can get down to about three gallons, but I don't see it come on.

So...My best answer really is "I don't know."

heh heh... ...heh.
Nevermind, it doesn't work. I ran out of gas an 2 hours ago and just got back home (walking). The light never came on.

How convenient. I'm royally f-ing screwed. :banghead:

last i checked the tank was 14.9 gallons. That's kinda huge for an economy car. I would usually get 400 miles before the light would come on, and that's with no 5th gear to save gas!

HondaBoy
01-29-2004, 08:50 PM
hmm, i wonder what really is wrong with the gas light. maybe its burnt out or something, dont think its lit by an LED. i usually get about 250 miles to a full tank. and thats really because i dont drive it economically. kinda have a lead foot.

Never saw it once when I had my Accord, maybe the DX models didn't have it activated?

I don't know, I guess I never let it get that low. Shouldn't light up though for a moment when you start the car? Mine doesn't :(

Well I don't think I've ever put more then like 12.5 gallons in when i Filled it so that would explain why I've never seen it.

Mine went out one time i put a new float in the gas tank now it work's fine

HondaBoy
02-01-2004, 04:39 PM
i was thinking it may be some kinda of sensor in the tank, but considering the actual fuel gauge works it wouldnt be the float eh? im almost going to empty and it still isnt on, but its realy still above the empty line.

AccordArizona89

mine fades off and on

MIK3
02-01-2004, 08:12 PM
Yeah. I just found out luckily last night that mine works. I'm going to run my car from now on to the light to see how much miles I can get on one tank. This way I can see if my milege is good or bad, because recently, it has been absolutely horrible. Like 18mpg. And I don't hit the gas. Honestly. I'm gonna change the fuel filters out soon. That might be the case. Mine fades in and out as well, an orange color. The light comes on when 2 gallons are left in your vehicle, so at 13.9 gallons used, it will come on. Or should at least.

where abouts does everyone's light come on? I always run it till its on 'E'. Sometimes for a day or two on 'E' and i have never seen my light come on.
